Mermaid gown concern

MrsBBR, on April 18, 2016 at 3:41 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 21

I LOVE my mermaid dress, but am already dreading having to answer "nature's call" in it. I really don't want to do a separate/simpler gown for the reception, so I wanted to come here for some advice! No, I haven't done much practicing maneuvering in it yet as we are still about 9 months out, but of course I intend to do that. Yes, I knew what I was in for but don't care because the dress is worth it =P

I've been looking into the SheWee, PeePocket, etc. (how great are the names) and am wondering if any of you have used one and/or have any suggestions. There are tons of testimonials from buyers who travel/camp, but very few from anyone who's used one for their wedding. The bridal buddy is definitely not an option as it is made for less-fitted gowns, but maybe a trash bag would work to, at least, help keep the bottom out of the way?

Everything I've read for all gowns says use the trash bag method, and sit on the toilet backward (as in, you face the wall so you can hold up your own dress).

Lord knows I'll probably just have to get naked in the bathroom and then have to get someone to relace me into my dress bahaha.

I have a she wee. I also have a mermaid dress. I will not be using my she-wee while wearing my mermaid dress...or any dress. the she-wee (though GREAT) needs a certain amount of maneuverability and you will need to be holding your dress up. You just cant do both and you WILL pee on the dress. I have actually practiced the trash bag method and that works well but it does take a little practice. I think sitting backwards is going to be the easiest.

I agree with AMW, sit facing the wall, if you need a ton of help, ask your MOH-hopefully you guys are close Smiley smile

How long is wedding/reception? I don't think I had to use the restroom until I took my dress off. 5 hours total maybe? Probably not healthy, but I was so focused on everything going on, I didn't have time to even think about peeing.

Ugh I have a trumpet that's very fitted and I hasn't even thought of this. It's way too tight to just pull up.. I feel like I'll have to take it totally off to pee!

I too have a very fitted dress. I assumed I'd have to remove it to pee. I'll be wearing Spanx underneath, and I'll have to take those off too! I know that Spanx have a hole in the crotch area, but I tried peeing in them the other day just for curiosity sake when I bought them and I totally peed on them. Ew. Maybe I did it wrong. Straight to the washer they went!

I'm a nurse, maybe I'll just use a catheter? Kidding!!!!!!

    Following for ideas.

I have a trumpet gown and haven't really put much thought into this problem yet. My sister is my MOH though so if there was ever anyone I'd ask to help me pee it'd be her lol.

I just planned on having someone help me out of and into the dress to go to the bathroom. My dress takes about a minute to get in or out of because it just has an elastic hook inside for support and a hidden zipper under the fake buttons. Our venue has a hospitality room for the WP with its own bathroom, so I won't have to do this in front of guests, either.

I drank a little water and sipped some champagne before the ceremony and had a couple of cocktails during the reception and didn't pee from before the ceremony until after the reception so like 8 hours without peeing. And it wasn't because i was holding it in...i think i sweat it out from so much dancing. I truly don't know what happened but I'm glad it did because I had a trumpet type dress lol

The reality of peeing in a tight fitting gown that I'm wearing spanx and a trumpet slip and a long line bra under just hit me. I'm screwed. Thank god it's not lace up.

Lol some of you ladies have bladders of steel! Jesus Christ! I pee like all day everyday. Now I'm worried. I need to look up this trash bag trick or whatever. Thankfully my dress is flowy and comfy and pretty easy to get in and out of. It's just kind of long.

Yeah, I think I'm just going to haul my girls into the bathroom with me once an hour, and I might modify my spanx (where are all these crotch-hole models? none of mine have this.). My dress isn't super fitted, at least.

You still have to get involved to pee through or around your underwear. It's doable. ( bellydancer... I wear a lot of costuming and it's usually pinned to Mt under pants this is something I've had to do! )

Usually pulling fully to one side is much better than trying to pee through a spandex hole. . Facing backwards is easily the most efficient want. But okay around with it and you'll figure it out.

Maybe I should cough up the dough to have a theatrical costumer rig it ... or ask MOH/sister-the-nurse to hook me up with a catheter!
