Menus, necessary?

Laura, on July 22, 2022 at 2:46 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 11

Having a really small, but lush 30-35 person wedding. Plated dinner— sitting w/our guests on one large 40 foot rectangular table. We had them select between chicken & steak but have other options such as a salad and desserts, coffee/tea with dessert we are serving as well, that they have not selected or been aware of.

We are wanting the ones above, but they are $6 each ugh 😬
That being said…. How important are menus at weddings/plated meals?

Since they have already chosen the main part of the meal I don't think it s really that important for each guest to have a menu. If you don't want to skip them all together maybe just put like 2 -4 scattered on the table.

I was going to suggest the same thing.

I agree with the previous girls! That would be great. If it helps, I didn’t have menus at my reception either and looking back, I didn’t miss them. Yours are very beautiful, but no one will notice if you choose not to have them. Many brides put menu on their website if you choose that route. Good luck on the decision! ❤️

If you imagine them for your tablescape, I would perhaps opt for a less expensive, paper option with some printed gold trim or a hand tied gold bow? Plus, paper can be recycled. Menus with a smaller group is a nice personal touch, but if you already have a place card, I would say just opt for one. I don't regret my colorful individual menus as paper was one of my few choices in my wedding, rest was my husband. Best wishes.

Wedding costs can add up quick girl especially if you are splurging on little things.. We chose not to do a menu but found some gorgeous and inexpensive wood coasters for place settings that guests can take with them to remember the day... Menus get tossed... If the food is presented well and delish.. let your guests take a food selfie as a reminder . if you get keen on this , I bought a couple of templates on Etsy that I have been customizing and reusing for my guest sign table, signature cocktail bar sign, maybe a bathroom goodies sign.... I will print at local shop. it's an idea but $6 /menu...pass . you can get some good favors with that kind of money.

Agree! My FH wants them. But I’m thinking something like this is just as beautiful. Wedding is blush and champagne and gold if you can’t tell 😂😂😂 but I just don’t want guests to get their food and not know what is on their plate so don’t want to totally scrap the idea, but looking into cheaper alternatives. These menus were just $3 a year ago 🤦‍♀️ Inflation is horrible.Menus, necessary? 3

Zazzle has a bunch of different menu designs, some with gold foil on them. There’s a half-off sale right now so it looks like you could find menus for around $1-2 a piece. We ordered our invitations through them and were very happy with the quality.

My husband and I decided that instead of waiting until the day of the wedding to inform the guests what their rest of the meal would consist of, we ordered menu cards and sent them out with all of our invitation stationary. So that way they could see everything that was being offered the day of the wedding, and if they had any questions they could timely reach out to us in order to ask.

Double check if your caterer will be printing out menus. Turns out mine will be since I’m having it at a hotel so I don’t have to spend the extra money to make additional stationery

Honestly if you're having your guests choose other options you should probably give them their own individual menus. Are there no cheaper options? Minted has some options in the 3-4 dollar range for your guest count

As a guest, regardless if it’s plated/buffet/stations, I would always prefer to a menu to tell guests what is being served. On reply cards, when asking for meal choices, it is nonsensically discouraged from specifying what exact meal choices are. Beef vs chicken vs vegan could be anything and guests won’t know anything until they are served. With buffet/stations, they give guests a heads up before they go to the line to know what is available and what to avoid for allergies and other restrictions.

I am team menu regardless of the serving presentation.
Not all caterers offer printing service but you can do your own via Canva or through a local independent print shop along with the invitations. Another option is asking your coordinator if they can add that to their tasks.
