we are considering braised beef short ribs as one of our entrees, but was told this may be too casual for a museum wedding, but they were really good and my FH and I are big fans of the entree. Thanks in advance for any feedback

    Do they have to be eaten with your hands? They are really messy I thought? I'd stay away from messy food.

    @Luckme Short Ribs are not barbque you would not eat them with your hands.

    Not to casual. Very fancy restaurants serve braised short ribs. Go for it!

    Honey... we're having BBQ pork ribs for our wedding and our theme (if want a them to give you an idea) is art deco and I have some ppl calling it old hollywood... those 2 do not match. We chose it because we wanted it and it's darn good food... our motto is = If we like it - it's in! Smiley winking Also 2nd what Piper's Mom says... our ribs you could eat with a knife and fork Smiley winking

    It's messy to eat, even with a knife and fork. This is why we used to sell filet instead of bone in roast beef. It's not a "bbq" rib however, and you don't eat it with your hands. It's more like osso bucco or a roast chicken. If you love it, go with it, but it's more comfort food than elegant dinner.

    We are doing braised short ribs as our red meat entree option and it was amazing at our tasting. And we are having it a fancy hotel. You eat it with a fork though, and if it's made well it's not messy, it falls off the bone. The way it is served is atop a bed of something and looks very pretty, I think Smiley smile

    This is what I was afraid of, some people may not know what they are , thinking they were similar to bbq ribs you eat off a bone and with your hands. Those provided by our caterer are boneless( which is what I have always eaten at the more trendy restaurants in my area) and not messy, at least not this caterers version....virtually no fat, tender, no need for a knife, may even be considered drier than normally served. @Pipers mom and Celia -thanks for clarifying that these are not BBQ ribs. I liken it to beef brisket, tender and tasty, breaks apart with a fork if done correctly . True Celia..it is comfort food, i am comfortable eating it whenever i can. ha ha. BTW, The filet option would also offer a sauce, so to me it is simply a diff type of beef , with a wine based sauce. Appreciate the feedback, need to keep thinking ....ughh

    @kathy thanks for the feedback ,yet the the venue says it is their most popular option and most of the entrees and hor d's they offer are on the much more inventive side, ahi tuna, pâté, Chilean Sea bass, etc

    Inventive (innovative) is great. I live in a city with a major restaurant presence. We are truly a "foodie" city.

    Most popular option does not mean best choice for a particular event. Only you know they feel you want to convey.

    Thanks everyone for your comments...the feel I want to convey is stylish and sophisticated.. As some of you posted, this dish is becoming more trendy, at least that is what I thought based on some of the restaurants that offer it. My concern is those who think it is BBQ ribs...that is definitely not the feel I am looking for.

    Perhaps you could have a sign out (or menus at the tables) so people definitely know they aren't BBQ ribs. What other food are you having? Maybe some of the other choices you make will 'help' it seem more like museum food.

    Honestly though, go with what you want to have. You're paying for it, after all. If you want to have them, do it! I've been to a couple weddings at fancy places or museums and they didn't all have overly fancy food - much of it was what apparently some would consider "too casual".

    It's the presentation that will make this comfort food more upscale and it sounds like your caterer will plate this dish in an elegant way.

    We are doing a cocktail reception, part of the meal will be small passed plates of Grilled Chesse and Tomato Soup and Pulled Pork over Sweet Potato Rissoto seved in a Mini Mason Jar. It will be the presentation that is going to elevate these comfort dishes.

    I really hope you go with the short ribs!

    Thanks again everyone, for the support. I am not concerned at all about the presentation, everything during our tasting was well presented, as soon as my guests arrive they will know it is upscale fare we are offering. My concern was with the invitation and how it would be received by my guests. (I probably should have prefaced my initial post with this info). Actually it was two family members who believed this meal option would communicate a more casual style vs a filet , especially for those who have never had short ribs . Other members of my family disagreed, they thought it was a more unique offering than the traditional filet, plus they enjoyed it too! @pipersmom thanks for the continued support,...we also have the tomato soup and grilled cheese hd option, so apparently these "comfort" food offerings w/ an upscale presentation are becoming more trendy. Think I am going with the short ribs....now lets hope they are as good as the tasting!

    Don't put "ribs" on the description and just call it braised beef
