Menu opinion (American versus Indian)

I am Indian and fiancé American. We are having a traditional, quick western ceremony, so for the most part it is an American wedding just with some Indian elements tied in. My question is about food. The hotel is completely okay with us bringing in Indian food for dinner for some or all our guests, as long as we meet their minimums, they don't care and will accommodate. We were originally going to offer the traditional western entrees and family style Indian food for food options -yes we know this will alter table settings, but this was mostly for some of my family members traveling from India/very traditional so they'd be sitting together anyway. And we were going to have some Indian food during cocktail hour. Issue is Indian caterer requires 100 people minimum to cater (understandable), so I wanted people's opinions on the two options listed in the comments below. For reference we are expecting 160 guests.

I love Indian food so I would be super excited! I think if you offered some "tame" meat dishes you will be fine. And who doesn't love naan!

I've been to more Pakistani weddings than American at this point so I feel that I can speak on this because of the similarities in culture. I say go with Indian because #1 it's cheaper #2 more of your guests will eat it #3 American banquet hall food tends to be garbage.

@EleanorRigby has a good point. It might upset some stomachs and also, make sure the mild is actually not spicy at all. People with GERD or PUD will have a tough time tolerating anything the least bit spicy and I know from experience that even mild is often somewhat spicy in many Indian restaurants.

DH and I would love it; his parents would probably rather starve than try Indian food. Some kind of mix of both will probably be your best bet.

I also worry about the ones who really cannot stomach Indian food. We are going to talk to the caterer Saturday to see if they are flexible at all, especially given we'll be putting in an order for appetizers and dessert also. I think it's safe to say that we cannot only serve Indian food without at least giving American food substitute as an option for those who cannot stomach it.

    Thanks again for everyone's input!

I LOVE Indian food and would love to attend a wedding with Indian food being served. I guess I can understand that this might not suit everyone's fancy, but I vote for option 2 but if possible serve a more mild version that's a little less spicy. Possibly kick up the spice for your relatives that are used to it?

Anyway, I love the idea of serving something different. Maybe some American food could be served during a cocktail hour?
