Men's Wearhouse vs. Jos. A. Banks

Elizabeth, on July 24, 2019 at 11:04 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 11
The next thing on our list is the guy outfits and I really want to use a chain company because our families live 2 hours apart. I've heard horror stories about Mens Wearhouse but they always look nice. Can anyone recommend a chain brand?

We are using The Groomsman Suit. They are an online company, but allow a "try before you buy" program. So everyone can order their suit, wear it at home to make sure it works for them, and either keep it or mail it back. Their prices are also great. The suits are gorgeous and amazing quality. You can also get color swatches from them before deciding which suit you want your guys to wear. Our guys really like their suits and have already talked about being able to wear them again, which I really like.

We visited Men's Warehouse and Jos A Banks, and ultimately decided on Jos A Banks. They can create a group for you (they just need your information and names of the wedding party) and can lock in rates at any time. That means you need to keep an eye out for sales, but once they have a sale, you can lock in on that price, and the guys can come in at anytime to actually purchase the suits. If I'm remembering correctly, the best prices we saw were $200 traveler's suits (suit separates) and $300 custom 1905 suits. We originally locked in at $250 for traveler's suits, but then saw the $300 custom deal, and thought that since the guys might need to get things altered, the $50 difference might end up being no difference, so we locked in on that deal, and later saw $200 traveler's and locked in that price. They're super flexible and there's no fee or penalty for making the group or switching items in it.

We really liked working with Jos. A Banks. It was $220 to buy the Traveler's suit jacket and pants. I know of someone who got the same items for $199 for their wedding, so there is room for bargaining. I think H's alterations came out to around $50. They also do a 3/$99 deal on shirts, if you want the guys to all wear the same thing.

We went with Men's Wearhouse—$99 for a full tux rental, head to toe with shoes, socks, vests, cufflinks...the guys looked super sharp and we were glad we found an affordable but cool option!

Men’s wearhouse and Jos a Bank are the same company. Look up Jim’s Formalwear (JFW) they are out of local bridal salons and all over the country. We found their services, prices, variety, and quality to be far superior to other chains. Their website will show you where they are located, we had groomsmen all over the place and no one drove more than 15 minutes to get fitted.

I'll update on Friday when we go pick up FHs suits from Men's Wearhouse. They didn't rent the style that we wanted to we had to buy, but luckily there was a bogo free sale going on!

IIRC, they are actually the same company.

FH went to two different Men's Wearhouses, and chose the one with an experienced manager who didn't flinch at fitting women.

I would also price compare, because FH chose MW due to JoAB insisting on including shoes for an inflated price.

WE haven't made the final decision yet, but we have already eliminated Men's Warehouse as a possible, because they were so rude!!

I've heard JosABanks has better customer service, but they are the same company, so I'm not betting on it.

We're now looking at Generation Tux and the Black Tux for our menswear needs. They both have try on at home programs, and their stuff seems really nice. FH got a suit to try on, and it was really nice! So, we're going to try one from The Black Tux, just to compare, and when we decide which company, we'll go online, design the outfit for FHs guys, and then tell them what to get.

We don't have a bridal party so it was just my FH that needed a suit but we went to K&G Warehouse (Fashion Superstore) for his. Huge selection, there's always sales, they have hundreds of locations and the staff is great. I was terrified to attempt Men's Warehouse but JosABanks was on our list of places to go, just didn't make it as we found one he loved at K&G.

It was $112 for the whole suit and he can use it for so many other things after the wedding vs renting and paying about the same or more and not getting to keep it.
