Men's Warehouse vs. Jos A Bank

Dr. & Mrs. R, on September 8, 2014 at 4:33 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 13

FH was the best man in best man's wedding last year and they had Jos A Bank suits. They were HORRIBLE!! His fell apart after the wedding and it didn't fit him in the first place! It was rather inexpensive for a suit too. FH has always had amazing success at Men's Warehouse. It's quite a bit more expensive than what he spent on the Jos A Bank suit. We are only requiring the GM to get pants, vest, and shirt. We are going to make sure there is a matching jacket if they want to get the whole three piece suit just to have. Is it wrong to ask them to spend possibly over $200 on pants, a vest, and a shirt? Or should we compromise the quality and possibly the look to be considerate of their finances? I don't think finances is an issue for any of them.

We're spending that much at Jos A Bank. I'm not looking forward to how they're going to turn out.

The suits we ended up with for the guys came from JosABank. Here's what I learned: Do not buy a "traveller" suit. When they are not on sale, they are the ~$300 price point and the quality is horrible. We went with the next suit up (full price is ~$650) BUT purchased them in the fall "buy 1, get 3 free sale". With the sale and coupons, the total price with tax but before alterations as $138 each. We did not do vests.

The base Men's Warehouse suit (which my sis used for the GM in her wedding) can be shiny and they, too, can fall apart easily. My brother's only lasted 3 cleanings.

You might also trying Macy's for the pants and vest.

Also, I found that the basic "Smartcare" shirts from Nordstrom were better quality and sometimes less expensive than the shirts at MW or JoAB. They come in both traditional and slim fits.

The tuxes our guys rented were like $180. Watch for sales.

Jos A Bank sucks and they screwed up a friend's tux rentals for his wedding. Men's Wearhouse did a great job for ours. I'd actually watch for sales at places like JC Penney or something, it might be higher quality for a better price.

Jos A Banks is horrible...FH got his last suit there and it lasted one wearing before the fabric got all goofy...Get them at a department store like Macys or Dillards....if the guys are going to spend money on purchasing the suits they are going to want them to last

Our tuxes were also $180 to rent with a $40 off coupon at Men's Warehouse. I don't think spending $200 on suits is unreasonable.

FH and the GMs got suits from Mens Warehouse. Buy one get one free so it came out to $275 for pants and suit jacket. FH is buying them their ties and shirts though and they're wearing their own black shoes. The suits are wicked good quality and fit everyone so amazingly. FH is the only one getting a vest. He didn't want to do just vests and pants because none of them would ever wear it again after the wedding.

We got our tuxes at Mens Warehouse and they had to pay $200 each for the whole sha-bang. Black Vera Wang suit, vest, tie, socks to keep, button up shirt, shoes, cuff links, pocket handkerchief....etc. Husband got his for free because we had so many guys renting from MW, so husband divided what he would've paid among his BM & GM's which made their price cheaper. It was well worth it. High quality suites, we had no problems.

We went with Jos A. Banks... AWFUL experience. Every single one of our groomsmen has had an issue with their suit purchase.

Jos. A Bank and MW are the same company.

    And they both suck.

Our guys are buying - pants/vest/shirt/hat for about $200 (but the pants will need hemming) from an different vendor. But FH had to get a Jos A Bank tux rental for one of the GM wedding last year - and it was over $250 and was an awful fit (they also messed up the colors so the GM didn't match - the bride was NOT pleased)

I think the biggest thing with Jos A. Bank is that you have to be on top of them to get it done right. I will be going into the shop myself with as many groomsmen as I can to make sure everything is done right
