Men's tux rental or custom made

Trinity, on May 26, 2020 at 2:53 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 5

Hello All,

I am a bride that knows nothing about men's tux or suits. My dad is very short (5'3), thin physique.

Where can I find suit for him?

Where do I start with the groom and groomsmen when everyone lives in different state?

When should I ask them to go get measure?

How much does custom made vs buy vs rental?

Which route should I go?

Sorry for so many questions, but my fiance isn't really helping. I am super confused.

Thank you all!

So generally for tuxes a rental will be $150-$400 and to purchase a tuxedo it will be $600+. Suits are cheaper because they aren’t as formal. My dad always said if you’re going to wear a tuxedo more than twice it makes sense to buy over rent. As far as when to get measured that will depend on the retailer you go through as they all have different time frames.

We're in Ohio and went to Men's Warehouse's website to put together and estimated rental package. It came out to around $200 per person. They seem to be everywhere, and our attendants are in 3 different states, so we can just provide the details and they can be fitted and ordered locally. This is what our guys will be wearing Smiley smile

We went with generation tux. It was so easy to set up the event, create the styles we wanted, assign them to the various guys, and send the link out. They create an account and answer a few questions to determine their sizes. Their suits will be delivered to them two weeks before the event to ensure everything fits and if it doesn’t, they will immediately send replacement sizes.

We used Men's Warehouse and they were a nightmare. My dad and brother drove 1.5 hours one way to pick up their tuxes on the day they were scheduled to come only to be told the truck they were in were in an accident and they had no idea where the truck was or when it would arrive. They weren't very nice about the situation either. My dad and brother ended up heading back home. Half way home they were notified the tuxes had arrived at the store, but they couldn't go back because they had work to do as my parents own their own business. They ended up going the day before the wedding and the sales consultant ordered the wrong size shirt for my brother because she thought the measurements where wrong. My dad lost a bunch of weight and his pants didn't fit by they said he should have come in sooner. He tried, but that's when they didn't have know where the tuxes were. My husband's best friend is using Black Tux which is an online company. They have the option to order a suit or tux prior to the wedding to try on to see if it fits and if you like it. It says it is free to do this. They don't have kids sizes so if you have a ring bearer he wouldn't be able to get a tux through them. Otherwise they have great reviews and seem pretty easy to use. I would definitely rent rather than but as renting is a lot cheaper so unless your fiance needs to wear a suit or tux often then there is no reason to buy on.

We used Men's Warehouse for tux rentals (literally the exact same tux that Kerin posted a picture of) and we had no issues at all. It was easy and worked out very well!
