Men's ring width sizes (in mm)?

Amanda, on February 23, 2016 at 12:04 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 16

What size is the width of the ring you got for your fiancé/husband? I found a ring my fiancé would like but it's 4mm, and it seems like the standard for men's rings is between 5mm and 7mm so 4mm might be more "delicate" or "feminine". Does anyone have any photos of 4mm men's rings? If it helps, he is 5'9" and has a solid, strong build, and his ring size is at least 12.

Don't have a picture, but FH liked the 5mm gold band, but a 7 mm tungsten band. He tried on a 4mm gold band, but it looked too small for his hand, and a 9 mm tungsten band felt too "bulky" for him.

It really comes down to his personal preference, and what feels comfortable for him.

Has he tried any on, or just looked online?

FH likes 6mm or 7mm the most, but 4mm doesn't seem that small to me

FH is getting a 6mm band. He tried on a 4mm band and it was a bit too dainty on him.

ETA: Sorry, no pic. FH is tall, with a slender / athletic build, 9.5 ring size.

Just picked up his 4mm tungsten ring tonight! Don't have a picture but I love it and it's very manly. FH is a big athletic guy at 6.3 if that makes a difference

I think FHs is 6mm. He has chubby fingers (so do I haha) and he thought 4mm was too small for his finger. Did he try it on to make sure he liked it?

I agree it's a personal preference thing. FH is a size 9.5 (6'1" but with a 31" waist), and not at all used to wearing jewelry. When we went to sort out my engagement ring, he tried on a 5mm band and found it a little much. I ended up getting him a 5mm Triton/white tungsten band (brushed with polished beveled edges - not sure how much of a difference they make) and a 4.5mm flatter platinum ring, both comfort fit. He thinks the 4.5mm is perfect, but really needs the durability of tungsten Smiley smile

I think you will need to have him try on different width rings and see what he prefers. It's not just about how it looks but also how it feels on his hand.

My FH is 6'3", big guy (not slender), and chose a 9 mm ring. And the ring he chose looks quite a bit different than what I would have thought he would like. So for us it was best to just have him choose his own ring.

It also depends on how the ring is made--my FH has a comfort fit ring which means the inside is domed. It's a little more expensive but it does feel a lot nicer on the finger (at least for him). I can't remember what size it is---I think it's an 8mm. He hasn't worn rings before so he tried on several and he liked this wider, thicker band. FH is not a big guy at all, and he's slender, and he just liked the chunky fit ring.

Both of FH rings are 7mm. They look great and he's a size 9.

I went with a 6mm Tungsten. Honestly, he needs to try a few on to see what he likes and is comfortable with. I spent 15 minutes at a jewelry store and knew what width I wanted. After that I bought online. Be sure to get Comfort Fit!

My FH has a 4 MM ring size 7.5. He has smaller hands and fingers so it works perfectly for him. Hope this helps.

I agree, guys who don't normally wear rings will prefer a comfort fit. My FH is 6'4", 34" waist and around 216 lbs...so masculine build and wide fingers. When I took him to get sized, I think 6mm was the most comfortable (thinner bands are more comfortable in my opinion but it needed to be thick enough to suit his fingers). 8mm would probably be good too depending on ring style.

Oh yeah, his ring size in comfort fit is 10.5 for 6mm and 11 for 8mm
