Memory Candles

Destiny, on August 10, 2020 at 10:48 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 10
Hey guys! So I lost my grandmother about 5 months ago and I wanted to do a table with my grandparents & FH grandparents pictures along with candles. I’m trying to figure out where the lighting of the candles come into play. Any ideas or suggestions?

I have seen the memory table but not the candles. I would maybe have someone at the table light the candles. Maybe at the beginning before guests arrive and can they be lit throughout the dinner and put out before dancing? I would maybe have a cover for the candles.

I haven’t seen people light memory candles during the ceremony either. I think it’s a sweet idea to set up pictures and candles for your loved ones that can’t be with you, but I agree that I would have them lit before the ceremony. Is there something of your grandmother’s that you could wear during the ceremony so that you have a piece of her up there with you rather than inserting a memorial into the ceremony itself?

I’m doing battery operated tea lights with a reserved sign on a chair in the front row for all the family members who have passed and could not be there. They will be on before the ceremony starts.

So sorry for the recent loss of your grandmother, and the thought to honor and recognize her and the other grandparents on your special day is sweet. I’ve seen people light memory candles during the ceremony processional when they walk in (like your moms would for the unity candle). For example, your mom (or a special aunt or uncle) would light the candles for your grandparents and your fiancé’s mom (his special aunt or uncle) would light the candles for his grandparents. That way, guests see the lighting of the candles, family members are doing the lighting and the candles are lit (and their spirits are present and honored) throughout the entire ceremony.

I’m having a memory collage of our grandparents on display at the reception, with LED candles already on the whole time

Yes. We are / were (due to covid) a church going family. So she had drawers full of handkerchiefs 😂 so I’ll be using a white one to make the handle of my bouquet. Any other suggestions?

This is great! I love it! Thank you! I’ll have my aunt (my grandmothers sister) light the candle for my grandmother & FH mom & dad for FH grandparents. 😍 love it

    That’s a great idea.
Is there a particular reading that she loved or was special to her that you could use? Or a reading that her and your grandpa had at their wedding (if you knows what reasons they had)?Other things to borrow and wear for you or your fiancé (to honor his grandparents as well) would be heirloom jewelry, a brooch, a tie clip, cuff links, a coin.
I love the suggestion to have a family member light the candles during the procession as family enters.

Look on etsy, there are a lot of cute signs with candles behind it for " in memory of "
