Memorial songs

Mrs. Ramos, on September 23, 2013 at 4:36 AM Posted in Planning 0 19

Anyone know of any special songs that can be used to honor the momory of deceased parents? Both my parents are deceased and I want to play something special for them. I lost them when I was a young girl so Its very hard to choose songs when I really only have very few memories of them.

    When would you play them?

So will anyone be dancing? Or are people just supposed to listen?

First off, I am sorry for your loss as a little girl.

I cannot imagine. I think it is very lovely of you to be doing this. There are few songs that came to mind, depending on what you want the feel to be - some can be instant tear-jerkers, some water-works factories, but some can be really uplifting.

I will remember you by Sara Mclachlan or Arms of an Angel

Tears in Heaven - Eric Clapton

Wind beneath my wings - Bette Midler

Time of your Life - Greenday

good luck finding just the right song. May your day be filled with love!

    Hi Betty,

I'm so sorry. Hugs to you!

I really like Jet's selections. I'd also like to add some:

    Angel - Sarah McLachlan

Candle in the Wind - Elton John

Who You’d Be Today – Kenny Chesney

Check out this link. I did a quick search and found a list of 100 songs dedicated to the deceased. Good luck and all my love to you. xoxo

Can I suggest a more upbeat song, maybe a favorite that you used to listen to witg your parents, or maybe one they sang to you. My Girl, etc. I think it would be much sweeter, and bring up happy memories if it was a song that meant something to you and reminded you of your parents. I lost my mom before my wedding so one of those overly sad songs would have made me lose it.

FWIT In The Arms of the Angel reminds me of the horrible dog abuse commercial.

Thank you ladies. So far Eric Clapton was my best choice. I'm sure that its going to make me cry but either way its such a beautiful song. "Who you'd be today is also a beautiful song".

Were they married? Could you play their wedding song?

I think that's what I'm doing in lieu of the traditional father-daughter dance, but I am very fortunate to have both of my parents on earth.

Ashley unfortunately I don't have any songs from the past that I can remember. Lost my dad at 7 and mom at 10. That's why it's been hard finding a song to relate to. I can only relate to the love we did feel and the pain of their loss.

@Kate , they were but they've been gone for over 20 years and no one seems to know these details. It's frustrating.

Betty im so sorry for your loss. I cant imagine. The pain of losing my mom is tough, but it makes me thankful I got to have her for 29 years.

Is there a grandparent, aunt, uncle, someone you can ask about their song, or a family song? Home videos that may have something? im sure you thought of this, just trying to throw ideas out there.

@ Ashley I'm also sorry for your loss. I'm glad you have something beautiful to use. Unfortunately no one in the family know of any of their favorite songs and there are no videos either. I'm hopeful thou that something will come through.

If there are any cultural songs that you can play. For example: my family usually will do Ava Maria, the parting glass, or Danny boy (Irish catholics).
