Here are some helpful questions I found online. We used those that were applicable.

    DJ Interview

    1) How much wedding DJ experience do you have?

    2) Do you have experience at our venue or will you do a venue visit beforehand?

    3) How many weddings do you do in a year typically, do you do multiple weddings in one day?

    4) Do you have any videos of events you’ve done so we can get a feel?

    5) Will you be the DJ at our wedding or could it be someone else (for large companies)?

    6) What happens if you are sick or unable to make it? Can we ensure that all the songs and details will get passed along to someone else?

    7) How do you ensure that all equipment is functional on the day of the event? What is your plan for equipment failures/glitches

    8) How early do you arrive before the start of the wedding?

    9) How will you dress for our wedding?

    10) Can you play some music the before the beginning of the ceremony and will that time be considered extra?

    11) Tell us your MC style, is there a standard script? Can things be changed?

    12) How do you select music to play? From a standard list? How do we add/restrict the songs played?

    13) How extensive is your music library, and what genres do you cover?

    14) Do you need songs edited for a particular length for the ceremony or can you replay songs/fade songs out if they aren’t the right length?

    15) If there are songs that we want that you don’t have will you be able to download it? Or should we provide it?

    16) Do you take requests from guests? What if it is on our do not play list?

    17) How do you encourage some of the older guests to get out on the dance floor?

    18) What is the last day to finalize the playlist?

    19) What lighting options do you include, what does it look like? How much are upgrades and what upgrades do you have? What color uplights?

    20) What equipment is standard in your pricing?

    21) Are you insured?

    22) How much is your deposit?

    23) Do you charge tax?

    24) What is your cancelation policy?

    25) What sets you apart from other DJs?

Hi countrybride - welcome to WW! Make sure to upload a picture for your avatar (instead of the default double rings) so that we can get to know you and tell you apart from all the other double rings. Also, you'll get more responses with a different picture, because the rings can be associated with spammers/trolls Smiley smile Instructions here : https://www.weddingwire.com/wedding-forums/forum-lingo-frequently-asked-questions/b433c40c1a62b96a.html

MrsBrinkleyToBe gave you a great list of questions! Definitely read through those and ask them. I think the most important thing when meeting with vendors is to have a clear idea of what you are looking for. Are you looking for a DJ who keeps everyone on the dance floor all night? Ask them how they accomplish that and what their style is. Are you looking for a DJ who plays a certain type of music - ask them about that!

Always make sure to ask about must play songs, do-not-play lists, guest requests, and their emergency back-up plan if they can't make the wedding!

One thing that sold me on ours was he flat out does not play songs with profanity in them! If we gave permission yes, but as a rule NO. He was very willing to get songs for us, like the James Bond song for garter toss and Game of Thrones theme for our entrance (hubs picked it).

You need to decide what kind of DJ you want. Someone who just plays music? Someone who is more involved, making announcements?

Who is the DJ who will actually show up the day of?

Mrs. Brinkley's list is good, but, i'd add this:

Never pay cash. Make sure everything is in writing in a contract you both sign.

    EVERYTHING.

DJ John says he is the one showing up? Put it in writing. Make sure it says 'no substitutions without your prior approval.

    Etc.
