Also I would google or youtube search him to see if you can see him in action. You want to know what he's like presence wise. We thought we had great djs in the interviews but then saw them in videos and they just lacked a stage presence we really wanted. We didn't want the cheesy boring wedding dj. You have to click with his stage presence especially if he's going to MC the night.

I second what mimitrue said - make sure you see some video of your DJ to see if you like him. The DJ my fiancé and I went with showed us some video clips when we met with him. It was very helpful in making our decision.

Ask him how many hours are included, is ceremony included as well? Do they have any fun add on options (photo booth, uplighting, monogram etc.), do they have more than one DJ in their company and if so can you pick what DJ will be at your wedding, Do they have an online library where you can add MUST PLAY and DO NOT PLAY to the list?, do they emcee the event and announce first dances and interact with the crowd?

We asked a trick question (which I guess isn't very nice, but it served its purpose lol). We asked the two DJs we've spoken to if they had an upcoming wedding we could pop in on to see them in action. If they had said yes, that would have been a deal breaker! I wouldn't want my vendors bringing randos to my wedding to try to make a sale.

Thanks ladies he is providing our uplighting and 2 microphones and 6hours for ceremony cocktail hour and reception he gave me a link to his FB page to watch videos and he is also going to show us videos when we meet with him. That's a good one @flighty I don't want random people just popping in lol We had talked to several DJ's before and their prices where kind of outrageous close to 2500 he is doing it for almost a third of that so we will see

I would ask him for your playlist like a month in advance. I hope this a crazy fluke thing that has only happened to me, but my DJ expected a full play list from me, four days before the wedding. I had a complete and utter meltdown (and WW post) about it. The responses on the post all said that's insane, that's the DJ's job to make a play list, BUT it happened to me.

Ask your DJ how he would describe the perfect event. Our has said that it is always his goal to read the crowd and adjust the music accordingly. He likes to play the music that has the most people dancing. Knowing the next song to play based off your crowd is huge. A static playlist can be a bust. You are hiring a DJ, not playing an ipod. He should be constantly reading the crowd to keep the party going.

    1. Do they have insurance?

    2. How will they make your event memorable/unique BESIDES playing music?

    3. How will they start the dancing/ get people on the floor?

    4. Are you meeting with the DJ who will be at your event- or do you have to do another meeting with the DJ who will be there?

    5. Ask WHY they charge what they do.

-Videos are ok, however no DJ I know will show a bad video to a client.

-Don't ask the DJ to describe the perfect event. He should be asking you about YOUR vision and how he can make your event perfect- not the other way around. If he doesn't ask, this may mean he already has set in his mind how he does things (cookie cutter- same thing all the time).

-As far as asking to see the DJ at another reception... no, no, no.

    Hope this helps!
