Meeting booked photographer for the first time.

Patricia, on April 21, 2016 at 2:55 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 12

We booked out photographer months ago. I spoke to her via email and over the phone. Now we are actually meeting in person. She was having a baby so the meeting has been delayed. She has already answers my questions in the past but its important that I meet her in person before our wedding day. So does anyone have any suggestions of things I can ask so it doesn't seem like a pointless meeting?

Not really... Lol In a way it is a pointless meeting if she's already booked!

Well,, not pointlesssss...but you know what I mean.

Maybe get her talking about how she got into photography and why she chose wedding photography. Talking about something that she is most likely passionate about should get the ball rolling. Ask about how she sees things working on the wedding day...

Hopefully the conversation will roll from there! Smiley smile

If you are still unclear, you could ask about how long it will take to receive your pics, how many you will receive, etc.

Ask what her style is. I prefer non posed photos so I made sure my photographer specialized in that. Other photographers loooove super pose-Y photos

Thanks Kristy. I know what you man. It does feel pointless haha. She suggested we do meet in person considering we had already done our engagement pictures with someone else. We could also talk about my fiancés fear or pictures lol.

I'm with you Heather!! I love candid pictures which is why I chose them. I am not crazy about the classic boring pictures. I like to see happiness in the moment.

Talk about poses! Go over what you love/what you don't. Show her some examples. Go over your family portrait needs for that day and the timeline you have set. Also, go over your plan B for weather.

Great advise Lindsay Eileen. I didn't even think of day of planning.

Yes you definitely want to know who she is in person before she shows up at your wedding!

To be honest, I never met my photographers until the day of the wedding. We constantly emailed and that was the extent of it. I loved everything I saw online with their portfolios and websites and I made sure I read any and all reviews extensively before booking. But with my work schedule and having a toddler and newborn (at the time) I had zero time to meet people so I trusted my gut. Whenever I had a question, I emailed and she responded quickly. We have the most amazing photos of our day, I couldn't have asked for a better photographer. But I never actually met her until the day of the wedding.

As for what style she is, bloody shame on anyone who hires a wedding photographer for not already knowing that and hiring them for that reason. I hope you've got that part done, lol. . I'd go over basic timeline and get a feel for her process and approach, etc.

Yeah I heard a lot of people haven't met their photographer, especially when planning from another state. I am very thorough with reading reviews and actively look at wedding pictures they post on Facebook and their website. I am always amazed. Thanks Jay. I will defiantly get a timeline and find out her techniques and process.

Where are you meeting her? If it is at the venue you could do some specific location scouting (i.e. bridal party outside on the patio, family at the ceremony altar, etc.) that would help day of run more quickly.

You could review any of the stuff that you've previously communicated and go over your game plan for the wedding day. You could probably also show her any inspiration photos or samples of other wedding photos you've found and liked. It might be good to also ask if she has any advice based on the numerous weddings she's attended as a pro. Nobody really spends as much time with the bride and groom as the photographer, so she probably has some good hints and tricks for making your day better.
