Medieval Wedding Theme Ideas

If I was planning a themed wedding, I think the first thing I would do is google to see if David Tutera did any episodes on that theme. Then you can find examples of classy touches to pull it off.

I also would suggest not going insanely overboard with a "theme" thought. You don't want it to feel like a wedding not a kids party.

And I do want it to not be 'cheesy' or 'cheap' I want it to be tasteful.

And David Tutera did a Medieval wedding: My Fair Wedding with David Tutera Season 2 Episode 4! He definitely made it look classy and not cheesy.

There's a thin line between cheesy and classy be sure not to cross it.

Lots of greenery, garlands, consider table runners, long tables, heavy brocades, candelabras, maybe pennants for décor? Find a cool old venue to add to the affect, maybe a history museum or an art museum with an armor gallery. If at any point you find yourself donning a costume or eating a leg of lamb with your bare hands, you've gone too far.

My husband and I used leather goblets for our toast. We got them in London. :-)

Tips from a British history major: serve food family-style, use gold or wood platters, silver/pewter goblets, long tables, dancing in the middle, perhaps a musician whilst you eat. Food: meats, veggies.

Music - check local college music departments, sometimes they have the numbers of instrumentalists specializing in esoteric instruments like lute or mandolin.

any cavernous space with natural materials would be a good choice - you could easily dress up a basic wood barn interior with 'medieval' fittings!

While they CAN be cheesy, some RenFair garb seamstresses have a good sense of taste, and could do wonders with an ivory brocade. Or go colorful! After all, medieval brides didn't wear white, that's a Victorian invention.

Marzipan or nut-and-honey pastries/cake filling

Fingerfoods and finger-bowls of water at each place

Roast meats heavy on spices

Mulled wine!

Growling dogs fighting under the tables is probably TOO much realism....but there are decor elements you can incorporate. The Cloisters and other medieval museums sell reproduction tapestries you could use as a sweetheart table, escort table or cake backdrop for instance. And CDs of medieval music!

Live minstrel type music with harp and lute?
