So I went to my dress appointment and they measured me right there. I have a very tiny waist and I'm small chested but have VERY large hips. They told me to get a 16 when my bust and waist nature as a 12/14 and my hips measured a 16. My dress is a-line. The sample dress I tried on was a 12 and they had to clip it because it was too large! The top was still too big. My dress shop has not ordered my dress yet and when I told them I want to order the 14 not the 16 I got push back. I feel like the reason rhey want me to do the 16 is because they want to get paid for massive alterations. They don't even know I'm not going to use them for alterations. Oh and I've lost 1-1.5 inches on all 3 measurements. Any advice?! Help please.

I think it's fair they're suggesting the 16 just to protect themselves - going for the size that fits the biggest measurement is common and safest practise for them, but based on the look of the dress and your other measurements, I'd be going for the 12 or the 14, honestly.

Before ordering, I would try on another A-line dress by that designer in a sample size 14 (whether at the same shop or another shop if they don’t have one) and see how much room you have. I understand the thought process on ordering according to your largest measurement, but since the skirt flares, I think you have some wiggle room there. And I agree, I would be nervous about altering that top more than a size.
