May 2021 Wedding Massachusetts

Hi ladies! We set our wedding date for May 15, 2021 before the pandemic was even a thought. We felt very safe in our date up until recently we now don’t know what to think. We are getting married in Falmouth, MA. We do have the option to do everything outside. What is everyone thinking for May?

Maura, do you mind sharing how your venue came up with the 50 person limit? Is that 25% of their capacity? The way our venue is reading the restrictions, event spaces are limited to a maximum of 10 people excluding staff as stated in order no. 60 (which extended order no. 59 https://www.mass.gov/doc/covid-19-order-59/download). But I've heard that some venues are considering themselves a place of worship if the wedding ceremony takes place there, which gives them a limit of 25% their capacity (with workers and staff excluded from occupancy count).

I believe it's their 25% capacity. It is at the DeCordova Art and Sculpture Museum. I haven't talked to the venue manager in a month or two but on the page they made for our event it still states 50 people. I was going to reach out again once the vaccine has been out longer in hopes they'd have a better idea of the numbers.

I’m also a Mass bride, we were planning on Old Sturbridge Village on May 29. As much as it hurt to do so we are definitely planning on postponing, and hopeful to snag a date later in the year. Pushing it off till next year might be hard to swallow if it comes to that. Right now Sturbridge Village doesn’t even have their events staff or any plan to be able to do any wedding, and we loved the thought of doing everything there so much, we don’t want to give up on it for a small/back yard wedding or something. We also didn’t want to compromise on our original guest list of 80, either- it seems like such a small number to ask for! So, I hope that come autumn enough people will have gotten the vaccine to do things safely in a way that doesn’t feel compromised.

Actually, one thing I was wondering about Wedding Wire is regarding this day-countdown thing. I wish there was a way to “suspend” it or be able to change it easily. Right now it’s a little heartbreaking to see its clock ticking down and knowing it’s not accurate.

I’m so sorry you had to postpone! I fear we are facing that decision soon and i can’t imagine how hard it will be. That’s a good point about the countdown..there has to be a way to change that. I hope you are able to find a new date soon!

Thanks, I hope you’re also able to resolve things in a way that’s satisfying to you and your fiancé. I figure it’s gonna be emotionally tough that day when there’s no ceremony as originally planned, so to make up for it we may try to travel somewhere..... or possibly adopt a cat. Something that still makes it a happy day.

Hi, my Wedding date was May 23 2020. We postponed to May 22 2021. So far everything is still on as planned. 200 person wedding and I’m not even considering cutting people. We have always wanted a big wedding and I won’t let covid ruin that for us. We have May 28 2022 on hold for us. We have to have a plan B especially in Ma as our governor has been super strict. Worst part about it is that it doesn’t even seem to be helping, our covid numbers still suck. It’s hard to process that as I know Florida, with a much larger population, is less strict with these things and weddings there continue as per usual. We couldn’t get a date in the fall for this year but at the same time if it’s not going to be ok for May I don’t think it will be 100% ok in the fall for a wedding of 200 with no masks or social distancing. I just don’t know when to make this decision. End of feb? Beginning on March?

I feel you! We have backup plans but nothing on hold for next year. We have felt pretty optimistic up until recently. We are okay with cutting down people but do not want to post pone unless that is the only option but it seems like it could be. We’re hoping to make a decision mid-late February. It is just so hard to know! Things seem so bad right now but i feel like they should get better, but really who am i to know that? Lol

Hi! 5/22/21 MA bride here. We recently made the call to reschedule our 225 guest celebration to 2022, but we are still doing a 20 guest (max) locals-only wedding ceremony and indoor celebration this May. We knew 200ish would be impossible, and didn't want to spend the next few months stressing about the numbers instead of enjoying the planning and anticipating the big day in a fun way. It was the right choice for us - even though it's not what we originally imagined, I'm much more at ease having made a decision to move forward with, and one that won't put anyone at risk. We have family and friends who would have to fly, and we aren't comfortable asking anyone to get on a plane before the general public has been vaccinated, nor asking other family and friends to celebrate indoors with folks who have not been vaccinated. In June 2022 we will have a big party- by then hoping this is all mostly behind us! Whatever you end up doing, I'm sure it will be a beautiful day you will remember for the rest of your life. Chin up, everyone!

Getting married in Falmouth also! On May 14th I am not so hopeful haha I am not sure my venue has a whole outside option and if I'm being honest I think I would have too much to plan now to keep it going. I don't want to uninvite people either 🥺it's such a hard/annoying/frustrating decision but we will postpone the year!

Oh wow! Where in Falmouth? Our venue has an outside option so we are hopeful that will work for us. But we’ll see what restrictions are what in the next few weeks and likely have to decide what we’re willing to compromise on.

Sea Crest Beach Hotel! The big thing is the restrictions I mean if there's no dance floor or cocktail hour where people can mingle I can't haha and I don't particularly want wedding photos and masks ☺️ but everyone is different!

That’s where i’m getting married! It’s so beautiful there😍. I agree, i don’t want there to be no dance floor. I can deal with the masks if we have to, but don’t want people to have to just sit there. We were planning to have the ceremony outside on the courtyard and then indoor reception but have already talked to them about doing it all outside

Fellow May bride here! Our venue is setting the expectation of 50 guests, masks unless seated at table, no dancing or bar service unless we enter Phase 4 (which seems unlikely at this point but staying hopeful!) At that point you’re spending tends of thousands of dollars for a dinner.

We are considering canceling and doing a much smaller ceremony and dinner with just family. It’s a really tough call and we’re gonna see what things look like in a month. Getting married is our top priority, even if we are disappointed by not having the party. But our love can’t wait Smiley winking anyone else thinking of downsizing?

I definitely have thought about doing a small ceremony on our actual date with close family and doing a reception a year out. Do you mind me asking where you’re getting married?
