Mattifying Makeup

Future Mrs. V, on August 26, 2016 at 5:37 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 17

I have super oily skin (no acne issues at all though) and I'm on a constant search for makeup that will stay put! I have tried so many products from MAC (foundation, pressed powder, even their primer), to MUFE hd pressed powder, Becca primer...I've even tried a layer of Milk of Magnesia before my makeup with no success! I am working with an esthetician to try finding the right skin care regimine, but I still would love to hear of your personal recommendations for combatting this oilyness I can't seem to contain.

    Paging @JO ROCKA.

I have oily skin so I use a mattifying liquid foundation and then use a pressed powder on top of it to set it and make it matte

Have you tried lock it foundation with a loose powder to set it? Maybe a matte setting spray on top.

Urban Decay has a new matte foundation. You should check it out! Kat Von D's Lock It foundation gets lots of good reviews as well.

I have insanely oily skin, like extremely oily. I was using my Clarisonic every day and face wash for oily skin because for some reason I thought that was a good idea. I recently started going to an esthetician and she told me to stop using the Clarisonic and face wash and to stick to a mild soap and plain water. I've been using African Black Soap from target and water twice a day and the oil production on my skin has reduced by like 75%.

If you're looking for really full coverage, have you tried Estee Lauder double wear? It's really thick but it's the most mattifying foundation I've tried so far.

I am currently using Kat Von D's Lock it powder foundation with MUFE HD pressed powder over it, I have tried Urban Decay's makeup setting spray with no success, but I didn't know they made a matte foundation -

@Vanessa does the Estee Lauder double wear look cakey though if it is thick? Also is it a foundation or a pressed/loose powder that goes over foundation?

I have very dry skin and I wear the Estée Lauder double wear foundation sometimes. It doesn't make my skin dry at all, which makes me question whether or not it would be good for oily skin. I would agree that it's mattifying but nowhere near Lock It or the UD All-Nighter foundation. But everyone's skin is different!

If you put it on with a beauty blender it doesn't and it's buildable if you really need it, but if you use an excessive amount it will look cakey (just like any other foundation). You don't need powder, maybe just a translucent powder to set the most oily areas (I use Laura Mercier). I know my aunt wears it and doesn't use any powder at all because it dries down matte and looks like a powder finish.

If you're using the lock it foundation then the consistency is pretty similar, I can't use the lock it foundation because it separates on my face.

I swear by light Argan oil! It mimics your skins natural oils, so your skin produces much less. I use it in place of moisturizer.

I like Maybelline pro matte it's great with oily skin. I do top it with a loose powder and it really helps .

Like others, I'm curious if you're setting your makeup with powder. Have you looked into mattifying primers?

NYX has a great mattifying setting spray I like to use on top. I also use Paula's Choice Super-Light Wrinkle Defense SPF 30 which has a mattifying effect under my makeup.

I've used calamine lotion as a base to battle this. Sometimes I'll add a translucent powder (Ben Nye) that is used for stage plays as well. It really helps to set everything in.

Lots of people with oily skin use this foundation, I promise I'm not the only one. @Whitta

@FutureMrsCarlstad, argan oil wouldn't clog your pores? Can you upload a picture of it?

@FutureMrsReet, I've tried that line also...

@Antonio, I always use a set with powder, I could never just use foundation, even the powder/foundation combos.

@Lynelle - Calamine lotion huh? Wow, ok may have to try that. I've never heard of the Ben Nye line though.

Do you have access to airbrush makeup? I don't have oily skin but when I tried that in my makeup trial it was extremely matte and supposed to completely stay put all day.
