Matron vs maid

Brittany, on September 29, 2022 at 8:01 AM Posted in Family and Relationships 0 7
So I get that a matron of honor is for a married woman and maid is for single. BUT I hate the word matron. And also think it looks cuter on gifts to say maid of honor. My sister does agree. But we both have anxiety and are worried about people talking smack. Lmao. Should I just go with matron and be traditional? Is that against the rule?? Or do I say maid of honor anyways even though she is married .. HELP

I think maid of honor is still fine. Most people don't even know wedding conventions/etiquette anymore.

Pffft… it’s a silly tradition. (And I agree, I hate the tile “matron”. It makes it sound as if she’s an old lady). You can give her any title the 2 of you like. Go with maid of honor if you both like it! ☺️

I hate the terms maid and matron. We called ours “Best Woman.” You can do whatever you want to. There aren’t rules.

I think it's really nice to ask your sister what she wants to be called. Go with your preference and know that you don't even need to have the title printed anywhere (on gifts, in programs) if you don't want. It's such an archaic thing that we should all be moving on from. After all, men don't have a different title based on their marriage status, so why should women?

Not against the rules at all. also don't feel like people would notice as much as you may think

i was called maid because my bff wanted that over matron since she also thought it sounded better - i was married at the time.
