Matron of Honor appropriate age??

Nessa, on March 28, 2016 at 3:33 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 18

Would it be appropriate to have my aunt as my Matron of Honor at the age of 43? I've never been to a wedding with a Matron of Honor so I'm not sure what the norm is. She doesn't look it and is very young at heart. We're very close and I want to include her in the wedding somehow. I will be asking my uncle (her husband, he is my uncle by marriage) to officiate our wedding. Mostly because we are not religious and because my family is composed primarily of Spanish speakers but we'll be getting married in TN so it'll be hard to come across someone who can host the ceremony in Spaniah. That being said, more of a reason I'd like to include her somehow.

Thoughts?

Yes, a Matron of Honor or Maid of Honor can be any age.

A matron of honor is a woman of any age who is married. A maid of honor is a woman of any age who is single.

    ETA words are hard, y'all.

As others have stated, matron or maid of honour can be any age.

Absolutely! Your maid or matron of honor should be whoever you want. I've even seen a bride have her mom as her matron of honor and a groom have his dad as his best man (two different weddings).

Thank you all!! Makes me feel better. I will have my sister, who will be 14 at the time as my Maid of Honor. She is very young for the position but she will not be young forever, and if ever there is someone I know I will be able to count on, it's her. No one I'd rather have by my side that day.

I have a matron of honor who will be 41 and a maid of honor that is 46. Don't know why an age would make a difference.

I don't think there's an age limit. Just make sure she wants to be in the wedding. Some older ppl don't want to put up with the fuss of being in a bridal party. For example my aunt got married in 2004, at 32, all her sisters (my mom included) were the BMs. My uncle died in 2010, and in 2014 my aunt remarried, this time none of the sisters wanted to be BMs (she asked them all). They were all there, helped, and supported her but they didn't want to deal with the dresses, feeling the need to lose weight for pictures, the expense. So yeah, just talk to her first.

At one of my weddings, the flower girl was the bride's grown niece. The bride had always said the niece would be the flower girl when the bride got married. It took until she was 50 before she found "Mr. Right" and by that time the niece was about 30! I have to say, I never saw a FG with a bigger smile.

My maid of honor is 41. She's got the bod of a 25 year old. Seriously, she runs 8-12 miles every day. She was a matron but reverted back to a maid a few years ago via divorce. She's decided her title is Maid of Dishonor. I love that girl.

I'm 40 and this my first marriage. Age just doesn't apply when it comes to weddings.

You chose who you feel is right. Age is only a number. Some brides have their grandmas as flower girls!

Age should not be a factor here at all; all that matters is that you have the people who are the most supportive and most important to you standing beside you on this important day.
