Matching stationery?

Skylar, on May 28, 2023 at 6:26 PM Posted in Style and Décor 1 13
Is it a good idea for all of my stationery (stds, invitations, signs) to be the same design, or is that too matchy-matchy? Here's a picture of the kind of design I've been liking a lot recently:Matching stationery? 1

You can but guests will not notice that they match, nor will everyone keep them. Find a design you love that doesn’t go over budget.

That's a good point! I'm not actually getting married anytime soon, just getting ideas!

This is totally a personal preference thing. Most wedding stationary I have received as a guest has been matching. Personally, I didn’t care for 100% matching, so we did stationary that coordinated with eachother. They were all from the same company and same designer (so they still felt cohesive), but the designs weren’t exactly the same.

It’s all a personal preference. I can’t seem to find a pic of our save the date but it looked very similar to our invite. Here’s our invite, our program, and menu card. I personally did match everything because I liked the theme and it matched our ceremony location. I don’t think any guest notices what the theme is or if they match. I personally wouldn’t notice! The design you showed is really pretty though

I don't think they have to be matchy matchy. None of our stationary was from the same place. For our programs and escort cards we bought templates from Etsy, our save the dates we designed ourselves then used Vistaprint to print them, and our invites we ordered from American Weddings.

Okay, thank you! Did they at least have something in common (like colors)?

The picture I attached is from Etsy! Maybe I could even see if the shop does a bunch of different designs with the same design (idk how to phrase that, i hope it makes sense)

So our the dates were just black & white, our invites were white with red lettering and tied shut with a black ribbon, our programs had blush & red writing, and pur escort cards looked like tickets to a baseball and hockey game.

Matching isn't necessary, but I have seen how it does tie everything together. Plus, it's easier than starting with a new design every time. Since yours is a monogram, you can use for invites and a Gobo light if you want the monogram projected on the dance floor or behind the sweetheart table. Everything else you can match in color or font. Of course all stationary and decor are optional, costs do add up! But, I recommend at the very least invitations, STDs can even be by phone call.

I used the same design for invitations, menus, and escort cards. I wanted the matching favor stickers, but they were sooo expensive. I used a different motif for the welcome sign and thank you cards, similar wedding colors and font but with more white space. My STDs were in one color, no photo. I planned a separate cocktail hour vibe and chose a teal foil color for text on the cocktail napkins and bar signs.

I can’t recall too many STDs we’ve received that matched invitations in color, theme, or graphics. The majority we get are photo postcards and the ones that aren’t don’t bear a resemblance to the eventual invitation. Many invitations we receive are still in the traditional style, ie no graphics.
