Matching Groomsmen shirts to Bridesmaid dresses

What might work better is to have the ties and pocket squares match your bridesmaids’ dresses. I have slate blue and navy, but a slate blue shirt would have been tacky, so the ties and pocket squares were a good way to go without overdoing it. Our groomsmen will just have white shirts underneath and gray vests to match their suits.

Right. With slate blue, the match would be bad to gray and black suits alike. With a lighter palette, the colored shirts -- maybe pale green or pale blue could work even with gray. I know generally it is best to stay with what has worked for most weddings.

I have seen colored shirts with summer suits in the South, e.g. green shirt, with ivory/ beige linen suit. If you go with a darker suit, a colored shirt might look less modern. In that case, I would opt for a class white shirt and instead color-coordinate the wedding party with pocket squares, ties, or bouts.
