Matching Bridesmaids Earrings -- Worth it?

Danni, on April 13, 2021 at 1:10 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 9

Hi everyone! I'm curious if any former brides bought their bridesmaids matching earrings and if it was worth it?

I have 6 bridesmaids and the earrings would be about $126 total, plus I am buying them robes & slipper socks to get ready in, and my mom is paying for their hair & makeup, and even gave $50 each towards everyone's $170 bridesmaids dresses.

There's a lot of money going to my bridesmaids and I'm just not sure if it's worth it spending more on getting them matching earrings vs. just asking them to wear gold studs or something along that line.

I would personally let them wear their own jewelry. Many people are sensitive/allergic to certain metals and whatnot. Save the money! Show them ideas of what you’d prefer if you have a specific look you’re going for.

I’d just let them wear their own earrings. Sounds like you are doing a lot for them. But I’m not sure why you are salty with them for not helping you when you ask. It’s not their responsibility to help you with wedding planning. That’s for you and FH to do. If someone wants to help and offers then sure go ahead and get their help. But asking them to do things for you when they haven’t offered puts them in an uncomfortable position.

I don’t think it’s “worth” it nor do I think matching jewelry is important — one of my bridesmaids doesn’t even have pierced ears. My girls just wore jewelry of their choosing— something their style that they felt comfortable in.

I do think that if you want them in matching earrings, you should provide them. As an example, I don’t own gold studs and wouldn’t want to go out and buy some that I would only ever wear to one wedding, instead I would probably rather skip earrings all together. But if you gave them to me and asked me to wear them for you, I would.

Definitely not worth it for several reasons. That being said. if one of my girls asked me, which I believe only one did, I recommended silver since that was one of our accent colors and what color shoes I asked them to wear otherwise I didn't care what color earrings or other jewelry they wore at our wedding.

    1. Allergies/Sensitivities - I myself am allergic to certain metals so I would never buy jewelry for someone else unless I knew for a fact they weren't allergic to the jewelry I was going to buy otherwise they wouldn't be able to wear it.

    2. Might Not Like Them - I HATE yellow gold so if someone bought me yellow gold earrings I wouldn't like them at all and I would only wear them for the wedding then they would either end up in the trash can or in a jewelry box never to be looked at again. I also have my ears pierced four times on one side and five on the other so gold earrings wouldn't match any of my other earrings.

    3. No One Is Going to Notice or Care - This one is self-exclamatory, but unless one of your girls wears some type of overtop jewelry no one is going to really notice or care what color or style of earrings the bridesmaids are wearing nor will you really be able to tell in photos.

Coming from a former bridesmaid who was given a necklace as part of her gift, skip them.

I don't wear mine because it was cheaply made and not my style. It's better to just save your money! You've done a lot for them already so adding jewelry isn't necessary!

Save your money and have them choose their own Smiley smile
While I was super thankful for the necklace that I received as a bridesmaid for my cousin's wedding back in 2019, I wore it almost everyday for a good 2 months.. But now I just wear it every now and then.

I'd say skip it. My cousin gave her bridesmaids an earring/necklace set that we wore for the wedding as our bridesmaid gift. They were a large pink flower on a gold chain (necklace) and backing (earrings). By large, I mean the flower on the necklace is the size of a golf ball cut in half. The earring flowers are about the size of a marble cut in half. A couple of problems with that for me: 1) I despise pink and, 2) I don't really wear jewelry much normally and large flowers certainly aren't what I go for when I do. Most of the other bridesmaids agreed that they would never wear them again because it just wasn't their style. It sounds like you've done a lot for them already, and most things are pretty uniform. I'd say to just let them wear what they want, possibly with a slight bit of direction if you're worried. (Something like only stud earrings, none that dangle please.)

I let my bridesmaids wear their own jewelry. I told them to wear whatever they wanted as long as it wasn't a giant statement piece. One reason I didn't do matching earrings was because of allergies. If I wear earrings that aren't at least sterling silver, my ears will turn green.

Let them pick out their own jewelry and accessories.
