Matching bridesmaid sweatshirts/robes

Juliet, on October 17, 2017 at 11:51 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 20

I know bridesmaids robes/shirts aren't too popular around here but do any brides out there have anyone in their BP that might be disappointed not to get them?

I had no intention of buying my bridesmaids anything that said bridesmaid on it but a couple of weeks ago my FH's sisters, all 3 of whom are in my BP, mentioned wanting matching hoodies to get ready in and now I feel obligated to buy the whole bridal party these stupid things even though I already spent a great deal on each of their gifts and have no desire for getting ready photos with everyone in matching gear. As the bride I feel an obligation to give my bridesmaids whatever they want to show I appreciate them but money is getting pretty tight at the moment and I feel this is unnecessary.

If they want matching hoodies, then they can get them by themselves. They are, presumably, adults.

If you don't feel comfortable purchasing sweatshirts-dont. But I personally think that it is unique, cute and useful for in the future. I LOVE having a nice comfy sweatshirt to lounge in and wouldn't mind the label "bridesmaid" Maybe be a little more unique in the wording

If you don't want to get them, don't.

If it is not in your budget, don't be guilted into buying hoodies.

I am buying the girls silk robes, plain in color, not titles or anything. They are actually interested in them and want those photos, so I figured I would put it in their gift baskets. However, if they had never mentioned them or talked about the 'cute photos', I would not have done it.

" I feel an obligation to give my bridesmaids whatever they want to show I appreciate them..."

Faulty premise. No one ever has an obligation to give anyone whatever they want.

I would give them a heads up that I am not planning on those types of pics but hey are welcome to organize it themselves if it's important to them.

No you are definitely not obligated. I hate the whole matching thing and/or items that say 'bridesmaid' but i was shocked to hear how much my girls really want to do matching shirts for the bachelorette and for getting ready. I was like well its up to you guys for the bachelorette i guess but i am not buying matching items for getting ready, i think its cheesy.

If you can't afford it, don't get it.

I tried to follow wedding wire....

So I wasn't planning on doing matching robes either until my sister/MOH brought up how they're so cute and was excited bc she thought I was doing them. So I bought them.

I wasn't planning on doing a head table to be considerate of the two people in a relationship until the whole bridal party was like "what?!! We're not sitting with you at a head table?!" And asked me to do one.

    I caved lol.

If you already bought their gifts and can't afford more, forget it. I'm sure theyll forget about it. They're cute for the day and for pictures but I doubt anyone will really miss it. If they really want matching outfits they can buy them lol.

Do not feel obligated to buy them hoodies; especially if it's something you aren't fond of to begin with! If they all want to wear matching outfits then they should pay!

    I mean I don't think they're unpopular but they aren't a gift. They are a prop.

I bought my girls matching cotton floral robes. I let them choose the color and size they wanted. I didn't get BRIDESMAID emblazoned on it because that seems silly to me. I knew it was a prop. They knew it was a prop. My sister still wears hers which makes me happy.

Personally I wouldn't do hoodies because it'll destroy hair and makeup when you pull it off. Maybe consider zip up sweaters, like Columbia fleeces or something?

I don't like the robes but I do want to get something for my bridal party! I was almost thinking the PJ union suit! Just to convince my sister to do that will be hard! My FH and I are big nerds and are silly so I think it would be fun.

But since it is more what my bridal party wants to wear it may be a flannel shirt or a zip up hoodie.

The hoodies would be hard to get ready in, V necks or tanks or unlabeled robes are all easy to get ready in because the don't need to be pulled over your head after makeup. I wouldn't worry about getting them anything if you've already spent money on a different gift.

Oh and I actually like the robes, if they dont say "bridesmaid" then they aren't a prop in my mind, i wear silk robes all the time at home. I would be happy to receive a robe from a bridesmaid gift

We went with robes for photos with monograms. Spa gift baskets and a James Avery charm to match each one of my girls personalities. It's def not a necessity, if you can't afford it, don't do it.

I wanted to do zip-up monogram hoodies for my bridesmaids but decided to do the robes instead. Most of the hoodies I seen either ran too small or too large and I know some are sensitive about sizes so I just scratched the whole idea. I found a set of 4 floral/peacock robes on Amazon much cheaper than Etsy. We'll wear them while getting ready. They don't have any names on them so they can wear them again after. I want to avoid as many extra costs as possible at this point. They don't know I bought them so it will be a pleasant surprise on the day of.

I was contemplating getting matching robes for the bridal party but decided against it wince they won't be used in the future. I told the girls to wear a black tank top/ tee so they'd match in pictures for getting ready and it's something they already have. It's a win win for everyone. They are each getting a gift around $200 each and we are paying for hair and makeup, so it isn't like they won't be treated at all.

I ended up getting mine from Pretty Robes and loved the way they came out. They're a small business in Houston and would recommend them to anyone looking for personalized robes.

I bought floral robes for all my bridesmaids on Etsy for like $15 a piece. They’re cotton and have the same floral pattern but not the same colors. A few already saw them and they loved them! Everyone’s asked where I got them!
