Matching bride and flower girl

JuneBride, on May 17, 2018 at 11:12 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 17

I was playing with the idea of the two flower girls having the same dress as me. I find it cute, but I don't think I'll do that because of their ages (3 & 4). What are your thoughts on matching bride and flower girl?

If it's a princess/ballgown or A-line dress, I really love the look. But when a 4 year old wears a mermaid dress, it looks very... wrong and out of place.

Sorry, but I'd find a little girl in a form-fitting mermaid dress creepy AF. Entirely inappropriate.

There are plenty of lovely, age-appropriate flower girl dresses out there. They don't need to match the bride.

I agree with PP's I am not a fan of a little girl in anything form fitting.

I am not a fan of this. Its Creepy IMO. A little girl - especially at the age you mentioned. Should be dressed in an age appropriate dress and not as a mini version of the bride. It's super innappropriate. Wedding dresses are not for young girls. Even the suggestion of a wedding dress on a young girl feels wrong and sends a weird vibe and message.

I think there are plenty of age appropriate options where you can incorporate similar detail without the weird creepy vibe of having the FG dressed up like a mini version of you. You can find a dress with similar beading, or lace (if your dress has some) or things without it being a perfect match. But it definitely needs to be age appropriate.

ETA: I think its appropriate no matter the dress shape. Even if its an A-line or Ballgown. Your FG should NOT be wearing an exact replica of your dress.

I agree with the PPs. Mermaid dresses are for adults and I can't imagine a 3 and 4 year old wanting to be so restricted all night. But I also feel like it has weird connotations to the kid getting married because it's literally a child-size version of a wedding dress.

Yeah that's one of the reasons. I wouldn't get a mermaid style which is what I'm looking at getting.

I'm not a fan of a little girl wearing a fitted dress. I don't like how a mermaid dress looks on a little girl.

My flower girl dress and mine are simular (see pics below). She is very excited to be matching, as am I. However, I agree that the little girls in the ballgowns are creepy. I guess mine works because I have a more casual dress and the flower girl is simular, but made in a more child appropriate style.

I wouldn't put them in a mermaid dress or anything tight. If anything it would be the middle picture. But like I said I don't think I'm going to do that because I want to wear a mermaid or trumpet dress. I want to put them in dress like these two

I like it! I've seen such cute examples of brides and flower girls matching but not 100% matching. It's a similar dress but the flower girl version is more age appropriate. Go for it!

This is okay to me because its just got similar detailing but you aren't dressing her up like a mini version of yourself! This to me is a little different because that is clearly a dress for a child.

That's so cute. I love how the bride and little girl match but not completely.

I definitely think similar detailing is okay!! It's fine to want to have some similarities. But I find the exact replicas creepy.

Those dresses are very nice and age appropriate!

I think it's cute if the flower girls are the daughters of the bride! If not, it may be a little too matchy for me.

    This!

I can see matching the color but your wedding dress is yours. The flower girl IMO shouldn't be trying to play mini me
