Mason Jar Favors

Mrscolón, on January 30, 2018 at 11:28 AM Posted in Planning 0 21
We are using mason jars for favors. These will also be used as their place cards for the reception. Has anyone else used mason jars before? I am trying to choose between ones with handles or without. Also, has anyone found a good website or store to buy them in bulk?! Any advice would be great. Pictures below for examples!

Super cute! I personally like the first picture the best! We are doing Mason jar decorations, and someone who likes canning donated a bunch of jars to us! (The second picture is our inspiration)

I buy mine from Amazon or Target when I use them for canning. To be honest, I would expect a lot of people will leave these behind, so I would try to save some of the boxes for easier transport home/recycling.

As far as advice goes, definitely check and see if anyone you know cans, they may have spare jars for you to use! Also, lots of craft stores often have sales and coupons, check online and in newspapers for coupons and deals, to get the best bargain!

I second check craft stores! There might be a lot left behind. I don't use mason jars at home so while this is a super cute idea for the wedding I wouldn't really take it as a favor. I'm sure if you wash them properly and can get the note tags off of them you can probably re-sell them if a lot are left!

Super cute! I personally love mason jars at weddings. However, try to avoid any in the "wedding" aisles of stores or wedding websites. They are hella overpriced. Also, price check the difference between ones with handles and ones without. I think the ones with handles are much more expensive.

I'm doing the same exact thing as you! I specifically wanted the mason jars that come with the handle so I am buying mine in bulk from fillmorecontainer.com! It's like $8 for a box of 12 with the handles! Best of luck!

The favor is just the jar? Or are you putting something in them? I'd honestly save your money, I don't see people wanting to take home just a jar. I wouldn't.

That said, I used mason jars as the vases for my ceremony aisle markers, and ordered them in bulk on amazon.

Are they everyone’s glasses for the night? If so PLEASE do handles. Mason jars a a little wider to grip than a regular glass so a little bit of a pain to hold all night with no handle

We bought these as glassware for our wedding and got the ones with handles. They’re a lot easier to drink from than the ones used for canning. We had apple butter and grape jelly as favors and the glasses were to be as well, but many left the glasses behind. I’ve since used them to make fun barware with my cricut!

Thanks for the advice everyone! I will definitely go with the handles if we choose. I am still on the fence about whether to do any type of favors. We have also considered doing a food truck at the end of the night for a treat instead. Has anyone else done this in place of favors or just as an added bonus for the night?

You don't really need to do a favor at all. It's not a requirement. Most guests leave them behind or they sit in a drawer at home unused. Although I am allowing my guests to keep their mason jar glasses (obviously) I am not considering it their favor. I'm not doing a favor at all. If they think of the glass as a favor, great. If not, that's fine too. Because that is not my intention. I think you would be fine just completely skipping over the whole idea of a favor. In regards to your question about the late night food truck, I think that's an awesome idea!!! But I wouldn't call it a favor. I would just call it a late night snack for your guests! Smiley smile

These are super cute! I had a friend get me a mason jar tumblr for Christmas with a handle and I love it! I had never seen ones with handles before I got one as a gift and I love it so much more than a plain jar! The only problem is that mine doesn't fit in my car cup holder so be wary of that.

My friend did this for her wedding, she chose the Mason jars with handles, and I believe she purchased them from Wal-Mart. Be prepared though- although we were all aware these were our favors, about 60 people ended up leaving them behind. We left ours- Mason jars are cute but realistically I'd never use one at home. I was gifted 8, and they've sat in my cabinet untouched for 3+ years...

While the jars are really cute, are you expecting guests to drink from them all night long? What if they change what they are drinking, or after the 3rd or 4th drink, would just like a clean glass? I also would not take it as a favor - I have enough mismatched glasses cluttering my cabinets already.

I'm not really sure how a mason jar is a favor. I'd leave it behind if I was drinking out of it all night because it would be sticky.

Are you expecting your guests to rinse out the jars between rounds of drinks & before they leave?

Instead of a food truck I would pay for your bartenders to have enough clean glasses for everyone to get fresh glass with each drink.

Thoughts on cookies for favors? These are some examples my bakery has made for weddings. I like this idea because I still get the mason jar look but people will be more likely to take a treat.

We have our venue until midnight so we're ordering pizza for everyone who sticks around later into the evening. A food truck would be fun too!
