COVID brides, What did mask wearing look like at your wedding? Did guests wear them during the ceremony? Cocktail hour? Only on the dancefloor? How did you "enforce" it?

Oh my gosh :o Yeah. Of the people that went that were from California they were only like 10 people maybe. So that’s really not a lot of people that really did wear masks. I kept mine on the entire time and whenever I was able to I just stayed in the bridal suite as much as I could to avoid the crowd. It was literally a very normal wedding there was no social distancing there was no mask wearing and there was a dance floor and It got really crowded. She did not want to force people to wear a mask even though she provided them so that didn’t really do anything because when people are given the option to wear a mask most of them don’t wear it. So the lucky thing was no one got sick from such a large wedding during a pandemic

I didn’t get married yet, but masks wearing is on our FAQ page on our website, and will be on our COVID wedding safety email we plan to send once invitations go out. But one of the best pieces of advice I received on this forum was that you have to lead by example. If guests see you with your masks they are more likely to put theirs back on. But we’ve also arranged all tables and ceremonial seatings by households so if people do have a momentary slip up it’ll be at a table with their household.

I’m leaving it to the venue to enforce. It is not my job to police grown adults... we are asking everyone to wear their masks when they are not actively eating or drinking. We are asking people to also remove their masks if they participate in any formal pictures as I do not want pictures of people wearing masks in my wedding album. Like for instance pictures of my dad and I together for our parent dance we will not have masks on.

I absolutely agree. That's what I told my fiance, I'm not spending my whole wedding yelling at grown adults

Just curious where you are located Chelsea?- Should have read all the comments first, saw in another that you are in NC.

I am also getting married in June. I live in MA. Our wedding coordinator said she expects that we will need to wear masks even if the reception is outdoors. We recently decided to keep our reception indoors because the "outdoor" option is an enclosed tent, so not much different than being indoors. I am expecting that we will have to be masked the whole time except for pictures.

Still interested to hear from other brides who live in states with strict mask mandates. I have all of the same questions that you originally posted, Chelsea. I was really hoping that by June 2021 this wouldn't be an issue Smiley sad

Hi Leigh! I live on the VA/NC state line and will be getting married in NC. We’re getting married at a Botanical Garden! The ceremony will be outdoors, so I’m not sure if masks will be required. However, we planned to have our reception indoors but currently the indoor gathering limit it 10 people. I find that silly because in NC, all religious ceremonies are exempt from mass gathering limits. I could have as many people at the ceremony as I’d like, but no more than 10 indoors/50 outdoors at the reception. Outdoors in June in NC is hot a humid, so hoping things will change a little before then!

Thanks so much! The ceremony sounds like it will be gorgeous!

I totally sympathize with the 10 person limit! It is the same in MA. It also baffles me because as I teacher I am in a classroom with 12 students and in a building with over a hundred people for 7-8 hours a day! I still don't understand how I can currently have more students in my classroom than guests at my indoor wedding. Crossing fingers and toes that things change for both of us!

Also a teacher! My biggest class (during hybrid) has 16. But I could have up to 21 (50% of the whole “regular schedule”class) — double what we’re allowed at the reception!

Oh my goodness! I can't imagine having 16 kids in a room right now (or 42 in a regular school year)! Is your school allowing for 3 feet distance? It does blow my mind how different gathering restrictions are from school restrictions. So many things wrong here!

I teach in a cross-disciplinary program with English and History taught simultaneously (project-based learning) in the same classroom. Two teachers! Our classroom is about double the size of our school's general classrooms, so we are still able to implement six-feet. Students have to wear masks all day as well (except while eating, of course).

Our school recently has let athletics start back up (although we're still all virtual until March 10th). So they can play basketball and football, but I can't have folks sit and eat at my reception? *sighs*

Hand designed face shields are a good alternative to wear instead of a mask for your wedding. I have seen several styles at www.camillewood.com (through Etsy) and had a friend buy one from there. Such a great alternative to having to wear a mask and cover your face and smile up on your wedding day! I think even some of the toughest states are allowing for these for weddings.

The CDC does not recommend face shields as a good alternative to face masks.

My friend lives in a state that is very strict and she got approved. It has also been debated about the health risks from masks for Co2 poisoning so, for a special day event it seems like something that could be considered acceptable.

There is 0 debate about CO2 poisoning with masks.... doctors have worn masks for decades so obviously that’s not an actual thing. Good for your friend, still doesn’t change the fact that the CDC does not recommend face shields as an alternative to face masks.
