Mary Kay makeup artist

Mrs.Sanok, on November 2, 2017 at 4:34 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 21

Hello! I am not selling anything, I just have some questions. So my mom and I were talking about how and where to get my makeup done for our engagement shoot that is coming up and she said that she thinks Mary Kay Consultants apply makeup. Is that true? Has anyone done it before? How do I find someone who does?

I would find someone who specializes in wedding makeup application rather than someone who is just going to try and sell you products.

I believe they do but they are really gong to push you to but something for their time. I went to ulta for my engagement hair and makeup.

I wouldn't go that route. Go through MAC or even to Ulta or Sephora. Mary Kay is a MLM and although they sell it, it doesn't mean that they are professionally trained and capable of handling specialized makeup.

Please don't go that route. Most I've experienced are not professional, and you'll have to sit through a sales pitch.

I avoid Mary Kay at all costs.

Ok, thanks everyone! I am just stuck because the salons near me either are not open or want me to bring my own makeup which I do not own any and I really don't want to buy it for a one time thing. Also the closet Ulta, Sephora, or anything like that is 45 minutes away from me.

The 45 minutes would definitely be worth it compared to the lack of application experience for some sellers and general overall sales-first experience.

Find someone in the closest bigger town who would be willing to travel and apply your makeup? They would likely charge a travel fee but it would be worth it.

Yea they do, but not all of them have experience, especially with bridal. At the end of the day, their goal is to also sell Mary Kay products, and to add consultants to their team.

I'm not sure why your Mom wants to go that route when you can literally walk into the mall and get your makeup done at any makeup counter: Sephora, MAC, Bobbi Brown. Just reach out a few weeks in advance to make an appointment. Don't wait until the last minute.

Also, use the vendor tab, IG to search for MUAs in your area.

It looks like I am going to travel out the 45 minutes to get to the closet mall. The one salon said that Sephora will help pick out the right stuff for me so maybe I will buy some stuff and bring it to them and do it that way. I am just worried about looking fake and having to much makeup on and I know Mary Kay is more natural look. I only wear eyeliner and mascara. I am not a makeup person at all and i rather just not wear any but I do not want to be washed out in photos.

@GymRat she recommended it because that is what she did when she go married.

@Mrs70 it is just for engagment photos.

I would not use Mary Kay. I had my make up done for graduation by a Mary Kay consultant (it was my exes mom) i didn't feel comfortable telling her no so i let her do it. she had been selling and hosting those parties for YEARS so i thought "how bad could it be?" well, i looked like shit. i personally do not like their make up either.

    hire a professional with experience.

LOL Okay, and how many years ago did your mother get married?

Anyway, Mary Kay is not "more natural look". What you need is a highly experienced makeup artist, and great products. Mary Kay is not where it's at.

I've said this a million times: the natural look that you "think" you want involves a decent amount of makeup. You're talking about foundation, eyeshadow, getting your brows shaped, blush, eyeliner, mascara, powder. What you probably want when you say natural is the colors/application of the makeup being used (i.e., a light eyeshadow versus the smokey look with heavy eyeliner).

If you don't want to travel 45 minutes to go to the mall, then utilize the vendor search on this website and others and search for a MUA that will come to you. Look at their website and IG pages - a great artist will have plenty of examples. Pull some inspo and show them 2-3 pics of the look you are interested in.

Nothing natural about sub-par makeup. Even for engagement photos.

I think you'll make out well going to the mall for help.

Don't go that route. Hire a great make up artist. For the wedding.

For the engagement shoot? I'm not entirely sure if it's necessary.

@Mrs70 O Sorry! I am just looking for someone that is close to my house. I am getting married close to where my mom lives and where my FH and I grew up in NY and we live in PA. We are looking into other options closer to my moms for the wedding.

Well Thank you again for the advice. I am either going to go to the mall that is closet to me either have my makeup done at the store or have someone help me pick out the right stuff for me and bring it to the salon that does makeup that is closer to me.

Search Pinterest for natural wedding makeup and show the pictures you like to whoever does your makeup. I agree with everyone else about Mary Kay.

Yeah , echoing what everyone else said. Even if there's not one of the big make up stores near you, the brand kiosks in any department store are usually able to actually do your make up. I've had mine done in Macys before

The times I did Mary Kay, they tell you how to apply it, but didn't apply it for me. Then I had my face break out, my skin can't breathe through their products. I thought the first time was a fluke, but after a second disappointment, I stay away from them.
