Marrying a latino

Kelly, on October 26, 2019 at 8:12 PM Posted in Planning 0 4
Hi everyone! My FH has two last names because he is latino. I was wondering if anyone has married a latino and what they did to their last name? did you keep your maiden name and add his paternal name? did you just keep paternal name of FH? did you add “de”?

Hey! I’m Latina and honestly everything depends, a lot of people just keep the same last name but if you want to change it you get the first last name (the one from his dads side) and usually you add “de” so for example kelly de “FH 1st last name” and then your last name. Other people just add the first last name without the “de” (personally prefer it that way since “de” means something like “of”) Hope that helps you

Yeah, it really depends on what you want. My mom kept both her maiden and married last name, but my aunt uses “de” in hers to signify which one is her maiden and married last name. My other aunt completely removed her maiden name (when she was married) and had her husbands last name, without any mention of her maiden last name. Hope that helps!

My fh is Latino and has a hyphenated last name. I’m going to take his entire last name and drop my middle name.

Hey Kelly!! When it comes to changing your name, it really is a decision that should be made by you based on what feels most natural to you and your FH.

Have you thought any more about it?
