Marriage licensee application

CDickman, on July 15, 2019 at 8:32 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 12
Is there any wait time for a marriage license? I plan to take two days off in start of September to get this and other stuff done. If I take off the 13 and 14 will I get it back in time for September 28?

The waiting period depends on where you live. In Massachusetts we have a 3 day waiting period, but they are good for 60 days.

I would check the requirements for the state where you'll be getting married.
In NY, there's a 24hr waiting period and the license is valid for 60 days.

You will need to check the state you plan to marry in. Everywhere has different rules on wait time and how long the license is good for.

I agree with PPs - check your states requirements. For me, I did have about a 1-2 hour wait

It’s different for each state. If I remember correctly you’re getting married in Cincinnati, there is no waiting period in Ohio or Kentucky.

We had a 3 day wait period.
Our officiant said it cant be earlier than 60 days and you should try to get it around the 40 day mark just in case anything goes wrong

Depends on the state. It's an easy google search.

Yes I found it thanks. No to tackle the task of getting time off work.

It depends but you should be fine. It's a 72 hour waiting period here in TX

Definitely check, you can usually find it online by googling justice of the peace and whatever county you are getting married in. We live in WI but are getting married in IL. In IL its a 24 hour wait period, valid for 60 days but only in that county. For WI its a 5 day wait period, valid for 60, but valid in any county. Also make sure to check what you have to bring. There was a ton of stuff to bring if we were getting married in WI but in IL all we needed was our IDs and birth certificates (which we ended up not needed to present anyway). Also, in IL, they won't accept a license signed by an "officiant". They are allowed to do the ceremony but have to sign as "Pastor" or something to that effect.

I got mine yesterday in Ohio and didn’t have to wait. I walked out with it right then.
