Our county buildings are closed to things like that so we can't even get our license. Our wedding isn't until 6/27 so hoping we will be able to keep the date. It can be stressful planning a wedding as it is but now we all sit in panic each day not knowing if we have to postpone or not.

We were lucky and drover down about a month ago and applied for our license and now we just have to pray that this COVID-19 flatline, slow down and or die so we can get to our new normal. Some city/counties are operating with a very slim crew, I would give them a call if I were you to see how they are operating.

Hi Micayla! Have you called your county clerk to see if they are open and issuing marriage licenses? All you can do is keep checking with them!

Like previous posters, call your county/township to see if they are open. Some counties in my states have been issuing marriage license virtually to their residents-- so you may be in luck! I am wondering if other counties will start doing this as well if they continue to plan on extending limited services. The only thing you have to consider is if you can still have an officiant marry you or if your state offers self-uniting marriage licenses. Best wishes!

This depends so much on where you are. My town is not doing licenses under our current stay-at-home order, but the state capital is doing them, and another down between here and there will do them by appointment only.

Even though our state's capitol is still offering licenses that are good for 90 days, we are waiting to see if our town's office will be open after the stay at home orders are up in May as we don't want to risk going to the ONE place in the state that everyone is going to as it's just too much contact for our comfort. Even if we wear masks, we don't want to take that risk if we can wait for another month to do it in our town which would have a lot less people.

I’m not familiar with the capital doing licenses? I was told since we both live in Monroe, mi we have to get our license here and they are not issuing licenses now.

It depends on where you are. My town offices are closed until our state stay-at-home order ends, but other towns are doing appointments on a case-by-case basis for pretty much all functions, and our state capital is still issuing marriage licenses.

I live in NH and am getting married in NH. NH laws state that if you are getting married in NH you can get your marriage license in ANY town in NH up to 90 days before you are married. I just googled and you are correct, Michigan is different, your laws state you must get license from the county in which one of the couples lives in and only up to 33 days before. Which confuses me... what if you were from Michigan, getting married in NH?? Our license isn't about where you are a resident, it's the fact that I'm getting married in NH that I have to get the license here. But Michigan says you get license where you live. Would you have to get two marriage licenses, one from each state?? You would think all states would have the same marriage laws lol

I didn't even think of this - was more just thinking about how it would be inconvenient for both of us to go to Concord during the middle of the week. Thanks for making this point!

One of my coworkers' parents said their town is doing appointments for just about any service, but you need to call ahead and set something up. It's a super small town (less than 1000 people) so I wonder if they are able to do this because they just don't have the volume of people in their town hall. We're also in a less affected part of the state, so may not be on as tight of a lockdown as the southeast corner. For us it would be a shorter drive than going to Concord, and definitely less people and foot traffic. Might be worth calling around smaller towns near you if things are still dire as you get closer to your date.

We have a family member who is high risk if they were to get covid-19 so we are being overly cautious. I'm sure the state is keeping the capitol clean and safe, we just want to wait and see if our own town will be reopening in May! I will definitely look into setting up an appointment if they aren't, thanks for the tip!!

Yes I thought you lived in Michigan, so here we have to get our license in the county we live and that are not issuing licenses now, so we cannot get one! I have already paid for the chapel as well 😭

Perhaps try e-mailing your county's clerk and see if there's anything they can do!

We can still get one by mail in Seattle as long as we can find a notary. You might want to check.
