Marriage License

Fiona, on March 12, 2024 at 2:44 PM Posted in Planning 0 4

Hey everyone,

My fiance and I are going to get our marriage license this week, in PA and I just have some questions on adding parents information. Does it matter if my dad is my step dad? He's not on my birth certificate, and I don't believe he's on any legal documents on mine, except for medical paperwork. They've been married since 2004.

And my fiance's father has been no contact for over ten years. We don't have his address, his middle name, occupation, Address, the state he was born in.. pretty much anything other than first and last name. Due to emotional stress, my fiance decided to leave that part blank.

So I'm wondering if any of that is going to be a problem or raise issues when we go to turn in our marriage license paperwork.

I don't see why you couldn't put your stepdad on there but I'd contact the county courthouse to be sure. As far your you fiancé's father I don't know.

I would confirm with the county clerk directly. However, I believe the purpose of putting the names of your parents is so that it can be confirmed you are not related. From what I recall from the process, you are supposed to put your biological parents information. Put whatever information is on birth certificates. If there is no bio dad listed on the birth certificate, leave it blank.

You will have to put biological parents not step-parents. In the eyes of the government your step-father isn't your dad unless he legally adopted you.

I have a step dad as well and I put him as my parent. I don’t have any real information on my biological dad as to who he is is, where lives. When I did go get my marriage license I did ask the about my step dad bc he has been in my life since I was 10 and let them I did not have information on my biological dad they me I could use my step dad. I still got my marriage license. You can ask them when you go get your marriage license.
