Marriage License questions

Michelle, on March 25, 2020 at 9:01 PM Posted in Planning 0 2
We had to postpone our wedding, but are still planning to get married on our original date (April 18). We live in Virginia and our wedding was going to be in Pennsylvania so we got our marriage license for PA. I’m just living in fear everyday that we won’t be able to make it to pa to get married on our date. Does anyone know if we would be able to get another marriage license for Virginia so we can do it here if necessary? Or any thoughts on the situation?

I think as long as you haven't officially married in PA, your PA license would just simply expire - it's actually only valid for a specific window of time anyway (60 days). As far as I know, having a duplicate license (not certificate) in another state shouldn't preclude you from applying for a license and marrying in VA. Good luck and stay safe!

We were going to get married in Arizona and we currently reside in Indiana. The original date was on April 23rd but we decided to have a very small ceremony here on March 22nd. Everyday was a new set of lockdown rules and I didn't think that April 23rd would happen. So with that said, we got a marriage license in Indiana instead and got married a few days later and mailed our license in on Monday the 23rd. As of yesterday, Indiana went into a full "shelter in place" type lockdown. So government centers are no longer open to public. We are fortunate that we acted quickly and didn't wait for our original datem If I were you, I would get a state marriage license asap, marry and then get it back in the mail soon after. That way the mail would be post dated prior to any shut downs on a mass level. I hope that makes sense.
