Marriage license question

Hi, all! My fiance are either eloping in Virginia or North Carolina. We have a date, but the restrictions in each state will dictate where we wed. Can we apply for a license in Virginia and NC, but only submit one? I'm just wondering if we could have two issued to us at the same time. Thanks!

Here is my no -legal opinion. Lol

I believe that you are able to obtain multipleMarriage Licenses. A license does not bind you to anything. It is simply a request to be married at a future date. The issue would be if you filed your Marriage License in multiple states. I am sure that your fee, if you so desired to pay it I’m every state, would be happily accepted. Here is my thought. If we originally planned to get married in Florida and our Marriage License is valid for a year (this is strictly hypothetical) but then we move to Georgia within that year. I am not required to go back to Florida to cancel my Marriage License. It would just terminate after the one year period for non-filing. So I think you are good to go on getting both. Good luck!!!

Potentially? But I'm not sure about that!
In both states there's no waiting period between applying for the license and being able to get married, so you could get your license a few days before your wedding! That way you'll only need to apply once (saving you time and money). - Unless of course certain counties have instituted Covid-19 specific processes!
I'd keep an eye on the county clerk websites in both states!
