Marriage license in Los Angeles

Brittaney, on April 14, 2020 at 2:22 PM Posted in California Planning 0 12
Hello how have people in Los Angeles or anywhere else obtained a marriage license. I know that many of the regristar offices are closed. I had someone who I talked to on one the website tell me I can do it online, and pay for it or call them. When I called someone online, they said that I can't. Does anyone who in going through this same situation, have any advice ?

All of the court houses in LA are closed right now for non-essential business. The registrar is not issuing or processing marriage certificates right now. Sorry! I was hoping to get mine also, but we can’t 😞

Same here in Northen California. We were able to get our license before but it will expire in May.

Would it be May 15th? What if they extend it again?

Hi Brittaney! It sounds like you can apply online, but that you'll still need to get a license in person - which can't happen while the county clerks offices are closed.

There are a few other California brides talking about the same thing in this discussion:

I haven't asked the clerk's office but I should. We might just have to pay for another one.

What are you planning on doing? I'm thinking of it it is still like this, to get married. Then eventually when we are all able to do it, to do it legally ?

Our date was originally April 11, we’ve now postponed to January 16, 2021 so we’re just going to wait until then. I work in the court and I would be surprised if the courts and registrar opened up again before mid June unfortunately.

I actually just heard about this . 🙏 thank you for sharing.
Do you know if the couple needs to be from Orange County or can they be from any county to qualify for this marriage license?

Hi I do not live in the OC and they said we can do it. All we needed to do was pick up the marriage license, I even asked if we live in Burbank and our getting married there, can we still pick it up. They said yes.(:
