Marriage celebration reception?

Kenzie, on May 28, 2018 at 4:32 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 8
My husband and I planned on getting married in September but things came up and we decided to get married by the JP in April. We are still going to have the reception when we had planned on getting married but I’m not sure how to go about it. Everyone knows we are already married. We each have a large family so there will be approximately 300(?) guests. I would like to have the same type of reception as we would have had if we would have waited. We are having dinner and all of that including a dj. Are we okay doing the first dance? Father daughter dance? Cake cutting?

You will most likely get mixed opinions, but I personally say go for it!
Whatever reason you had to get married beforehand, to me as a guest, should not automatically remove experiences from your reception.
    Buuuuut that's just me.

I agree! You're celebrating your wedding so you can do all the things people traditionally do at wedding celebrations. Your basically skipping the ceremony portion (or maybe I should say you've completed it lol).

Yes go for it! My co workers son got legally married 6 months before his wedding reception (she needed him for getting her student loans so they felt it was the right time) and then had the same reception they were planning.... they consider their reception their anniversary since that was the intended date

Since everyone knows do as you wish and enjoy it! Is this all planned out? September is around the corner. If you are looking for something more economical look into BBQ as 300 is a lot of mouths!

I don't personally understand why people get (or would potentially get) all offended by this, especially since it is so common these days! I will use any occasion to get dressed up, buy a gift for someone I love and go celebrate my friends and families being happy! I personally think it's great and say you should have as much or as little tradition as you like! The way that I view it is that having a civil ceremony is the paperwork...having the public, religious ceremony (if that's what you're into) and celebration is the wedding part. Good for you for doing what is best for yourselves!!
