Mariachi

futuremrsrichardson, on May 8, 2018 at 6:44 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 23
I am debating having a Mariachi group play for an hour at my wedding during dinner. I am half Mexican so this would really honor my heritage. My grandpa was also a singer in a tejano band back in the 70s and a few years ago at my cousins wedding he actually got up to sing with the mariachi group. You might be wondering why I am questioning this but basically I’m not sure if it goes with the theme and if this will shock the out of town guests. My fiancé is from New Jersey and I currently live up here so many of our guests will be traveling to our Texas wedding. I don’t want to shock them by adding too many different things. In terms of the theme it’s really romantic and fairytale like and we won’t be serving Mexican food. We did hire a dj for the rest of the ceremony but I like the thought of surprising my guests if you think this would be enjoyable. Let me know your thoughts.

We're doing this for our cocktail hour it gives guests something other than a dj all night and they might love the music and entertainment

Yes yes yes! An hour is perfect and it’s something everyone will remember. We’re having a surprise Balkan Brass Band play for an hour at our wedding. I’m sure some older guests won’t understand what’s going on but we know a lot of our friends will get a kick out of it and it’s something FH and I felt very strongly about from the beginning.

Yes love this! I would have done for cocktail hour but 1) don’t want to miss it and 2) we already hired our ceremony musicians to do cocktail hour.

Oh absolutely do this! It's fine to mix it up at a wedding, especially when you're honoring your heritage. Plus, what better way to get guests up and dancing right after dinner?!

During cocktail hour would be really fun! If you’re worried about a full mariachi band being too much, maybe consider hiring a Mexican guitarist and singer to play a few songs instead of a whole group! What a wonderful way to honor your family!

Do it!! Especially for the culture shock/enjoyment of everyone there. I live in central Texas so I am no stranger to it but I still get excited and enjoy it!

I also half Mexican and am marrying an Italian here in Italy (we live here). I also debated this because I LOVE mariachi and want to include my heritage in our wedding although the italians have no clue what it is. I surprisingly found a band who will travel the 3 hours to sing at our wedding. At the end of the day I couldn't imagine my wedding without them and I know the italians will appreciate the entertainment from a different culture. Do what makes you happy, and by the sound of it, this will be a way to honour your heritage and your grandpa.

I’m from the northeast area too, and while a mariachi band but be unusual and surprising for me, it definitely wouldn’t consider it a shock. I think it would be awesome! I love hearing different styles of music and I think it’s absolutely appropriate to honor your heritage. I love the idea.

Not shocking, and very cool. It would be a fun experience. In my opinion any live music always ups formality a bit. And to non-native Texans, I think it kind of fits in theme of the whole Texas experience
