Mariachi Band???

FutureMrsE, on December 8, 2013 at 12:01 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 11

So my planner sent over our design book today and in it my FH (who is Hispanic) saw a Mariachi Band/Mexican Band AND LOVES THE IDEA! Now mind you he hasn't made one dang suggestion yet and THIS is the one he wants? Haha....I have no idea where to even start looking for this or how it actually plays into a wedding reception. We are still having a dj as well. So my question is....

Are you or have any of you ladies ever had a mariachi band or been to a wedding with one? How long did they play at the reception?

I've been to events with them. They usually play for about an hour or so, depends how much you can afford because they can be really pricey for the good ones. If I had them, I would have them play during dinner as 'dinner entertainment'.

We're not having one, but I've seen where they usually play like 7pm - 8:30 and it's done during dinner time.

During dinner or cocktail hour. FH did the same thing to me also. I told him I was totally fine with it if he found the band and did all the planning with that. We're both Hispanic though so some family members are happy LOL. But if he doesn't do it then it's not gonna happen and that's that Smiley smile

I had one for my quinceanera (huge Mexican family haha).

It was like the other ladies have mentioned, before and during dinner time so about 2 hours. You could even do just one hour though. Once dinner is over and you are ready to start the party, your DJ would come in. Although Mariachi bands can also play lively dancing music.

Maybe you can reach out to his family about where to find one? You can also search on Youtube for mariachi bands in your area. They sometimes use it for advertisement and you get to see if they are any good.

Where are you located? That might determine how easy or difficult it will be for you to find one and how much it will cost.

Good luck! I think it's a great idea, but I am kind of biased Smiley smile

We wanted mariachis to play during our dinner, but found out they charge around $400 an hour (in our area), we decided against it.

I'm thinking about having one and FH thinks I'm a little crazy lol. But he will let me have whatever makes me happy Smiley winking You can try looking at Craigslist or local Mexican restaurants that host live misic. I didn't have a mariachi band at my quincenera, so I want one at my wedding.

We are going to have one for the ceremony and for dinner. It will be about 3 hours. We are having a DJ for the rest of the night.
