Margaritas for a Margarita Family

Chloe, on May 21, 2018 at 2:02 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 8

Hello everyone,

I was wanting to get some advice as I am having problems finding the answer online. I am planning on having beer, red wine, white wine, and frozen margaritas for my wedding reception. Both me and a large majority of the guests on my side of the family love margaritas. I will be planning on renting margarita machines but I'm trying to start to figure out how much tequila we will need to make enough margaritas for the night. Drinks will be available for around 4-6 hours depending on what time we decide to hold our ceremony. We are also as of right now planning on having 150 guests but we will probably be narrowing that down due to budget.

So does anyone have any suggestions on brand of tequila, and number of bottles, and any other suggestions people have. Thank you in advance!

I'm pretty sure that there are calculators online as far as how many drinks per person, and how that translates to how much alcohol to provide. Personally, I love margaritas, but really can't drink more than two. I'd think you could reach out to your catering company/bartenders for guidance too.

There are tools online that calculate liquor needs. Find a vendor that allows you to return unopened bottles. That way you can buy lots to ensure you don't run out, but you aren't ending up with tequila you don't need.

I’d go with Jose Cuervo. It’s decent enough and will keep the cost down compared to your nicer tequilas like Patron. If you really want to save money, there are pre-mixed margaritas you can get, all you have to do is blend or serve over ice. These are cheaper and do not taste as good, but could definitely save money.

It depends how much tequila you put in a margarita! But I've been told to plan for one drink per guest per hour. That usually evens out the people who drink less or people who drink more. I prefer silver tequila, even if it's cheap, for margaritas!

Something to keep in mind... when the machines run out it takes a while to get the mix cold enough to serve again. I went to a wedding that had two machines and beer and wine and there were at least 2 half hour breaks in 3 hours where no margaritas were available

    Hi Chloe,

    Welcome to weddingwire!

I see you are getting married in the DFW area. Are there any local craft tequilas that are great for Margaritas and might come at less of a price point then the high end big brand names? I'm sure you know of Tequila 512 out of Austin.

Also, after a quick search of your area, I found a well reviewed vendor which provides

    Liquid Catering

Also, think about whether guests will drink them on the rocks or frozen- you may need to arrange for some extra ice...

It's really difficult to tell how many bottles you'll need without knowing how many guests you will have, and out of that number how many will be drinking. Also without knowing how many hours you will even have the bar open. I would figure those questions out first.

Hi Chloe! Aside from your guest count, I would also consider how big the machines are since that will play a part in how much tequila is used per drink. I would also be sure to find a decent time duration for cocktails so you won't have to worry about supplying liquor for an extended period of time.

    Good luck!
