March or may in Chicago?

Help! We are deciding between a BEAUTIFUL venue available the end of march or a different but beautiful one available in may! Any pros/cons about a March vs may wedding in Chicago?

I got married May 2 of last year and it ended up with the warmest weekend that month (by luck).

March is still too cold. Just do not pick the weekend of Mother's day (first thing my florist asked me). My wedding was the same weekend Catholic kids get confirmed or something so the hair salon asked me to make sure everyone who needed an appointment get one ASAP.

    @Sqwiqqy, that's my B-day!

Not related to the post, but if everyone could stop saying it will snow in March for the poor bride getting married in 37 days, thanks.

Seriously though, we picked March because we wanted to save money and my fiancé loves the winter time. He didn't ask for much so he got the winter wedding. I would go with May for the reasons everyone listed here unless you are absolutely in love with the March venue and comfortable with potentially bad weather.

May! March it still can and has snowed here in Milwaukee. Sorry JS. Smiley sad We sometimes get snow on opening day (baseball), and that's in April! May 21st the average temp here is 64. I'll take that over snow!

I would go with May (and I did go with May). March is still pretty risky weather-wise, especially in Chicago. But, if the entire wedding is indoors, it shouldn't matter too much. March certainly is cheaper.

Without considering cost differences, I would 100% go May. It's not as cold and flowers will be blooming.

March is not bad. It does snow sometimes. Last March felt like Jan/Feb with the snow and cold. But a couple years ago March felt like June, so it's a little more risky.

@JSmith2U...it's been unusually warm this winter so this year might not be cold or snow Smiley smile Hoping it works out for you!

@JSmith2U, Midwest is getting hit with El Nino, this is a good year to get married in March (above average temps, low expected snowfall).

From WW to God's ears lol. I don't mind snow but I don't want it on my wedding day.

We are doing March in Chicago because it was the latest month of off-season prices. Our venue was considerably cheaper so we are able to more comfortably pay for all the things we wanted to do for a fun party. I also think we had more time to look around and compare vendors because there's a lot less people getting married at the same time, so we weren't worried that things would book up quickly. Also, there are times we were going to 2-4 wedding a month during peak wedding season. We like the fact that there are no other weddings around ours in our circle of friends so friends don't have to choose between our wedding and another, or they're not overwhelmed with the amount of weddings they're going to.

The cons is that it could be snowing or it could be 55 degrees. We will have no way of knowing until the week before, really. Most of our guests are local and the ones from out of the country are arriving four days earlier, so hopefully we will have no issues with weather.

I'm a bit biased. (See my name)

Do what feels right for you, regarding prices and weather.

May would probably be the safer bet for nice weather but last May my parents hosted an engagement party for my FH and I and it was in the low 50's and raining! I never expected it to be that chilly on May 30th. And sometimes it's 80 degrees in March! You never know with that wacky Chicago weather.

Jenna I have been to two weddings at Bolingbrook Golf Club and they're beautiful!

ETA- most were done in cold months so I'm not sure if there are outdoor options there. And they both had chair covers which I HATE but not sure what the alternative is. The red carpet in the reception area bothered me, but the draping and dimming was beautiful. One had up lighting on the walls and it was really nice. I'm also really biased since I love and chose an outdoor wedding and reception for mine, so normal people who weren't planning a wedding would notice
