I hear all the time that my potential couples have a preference; sometimes it's what they think parents expect. But oddly enough, as many couples tell me they always thought they'd be married by a man as by a woman!

We actually have both. Smiley smile it's FHs old pastors, who are married and work in tandem, both in church, and at weddings.

We are having both. The woman is the legal officiant, but they are a husband/wife team, & it fits to have a priest & priestess for a pagan ceremony

When I was growing up, pretty much all priests, ministers, rabbis, etc. were men. But then again, so were pretty much all the lawyers--and I became a lawyer myself. When we were looking for an officiant, we were looking for a good one, and gender really didn't enter into it.

I honestly never even thought about gender!

Our officiant was someone we are close with and happens to be a guy, but that did not have anything to do with why we chose him.

I'm a one-person, female-owned biz. I'm sometimes asked if I have a male officiant working for me because someone in the family insists that the officiant be male. I usually reply, "Well, I could try to speak in a deeper voice, but I don't think anyone would believe I'm a man."

Before one wedding (Irish Catholic bride, Italian Catholic DIVORCED groom), I overheard one old guy tell another old guy, "See that redhead over there? She's going to marry them." Second old guy replied, "She doesn't look like any priest I've ever seen!"

Everyone we looked at was a man... but it was other "requirements" that narrowed it down. I think I always pictured a man though...

I didn't think gender would be a problem until I met FH's family.. We are having a woman marry us because she was best friends with my mom, but his family is against it.

I have found many couples would rather a male officiant, but overall I have found many couples just want someone who fits their style and budget.

I was initially leaning more towards a female officiant, i just think women would have a more soft approach instead of directa dn straight to the pont i guess. But in the end what mattered was their presence, comfortablity, professionalism, and mainly that they shared the same point of views as us about a few main things that are important to us.

I assume ours will be male, primarily because we will be having a conservative church ceremony, and the churches tend to come with the officiant built right in. Smiley winking
