Male Engagement Ring?

Haley, on May 24, 2019 at 9:55 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 15
My fiancé really wants a ring to wear while we are engaged, since it will be a 2 year engagement and he’s super excited. Should I try to get a cheap silicone one for now and then upgrade to the wedding band? Or just go for the wedding band now? I know make wedding bands are not super expensive but I just don’t know which route to go.

I'd say get a specifically engagement ring. When he has his wedding band, he could wear the engagement ring on a different finger. Plus, it'll be more exciting for him that way

I am giving my fiance his wedding band early. It's a black tungsten ring with an antler inlay. The silicone rings seem good for people who may not be able to wear a metal one due to work/hobbies. Both of your ideas sound nice for engagement though.

My Fiance and I have a 2 year engagement as well. My finace wanted a QUALO ring and he loves it. He wanted to wear an engagement ring, it's what it symbolizes. We still debate on if we should get a nice band for him later on, but I'm going to let him figure that out.

If you plan on doing engagement pictures anytime soon I would just go ahead and get it. Me and my fiancé aren’t getting our photos done until next year so I’m waiting till the end of the year to get it since most military guys end up wearing the silicone bands anyway

They make male engagement rings now. Another option would be a claddagh ring. Or get his wedding band now, but have him wear it on his right hand until the wedding.

Ask him! My hubby wore his wedding band early because he wanted to. I thought it was cute.

We got my FH a decent, $30 one from etsy that was rose gold and silver to match my ring. He works as a custodian at the university, so I got him a silicone one for work. It was $8bfrom amazin with a lifetime no questions asked replacement warranty.

I got mine a silicone ring, but thats cause where he works he can get it caught in something. He wanted one cause he said its only fair. I got him a groove ring and even got it engraved with the day we got together. You can think about doing that.

Get a proper ring! My fiance and I both wear one (both men!).

You can find silver rings for pocket change out there, it doesn't have to be fancy to mean a whole lot more (and be a whole lot cheaper) than silicone! Our rings didn't cost a lot-- he wears a celtic band, I have an eternity-style ring, both cost under £50 but we'll keep them for life in a way that we couldn't with non-precious jewellery.

(I get that silicone rings are more convenient for a lot of people- but if you're only doing it to save money or to be a stop-gap, it might feel less meaningful).

My fiancé wears an engagement ring. He wanted to be able to show off he’s engaged. I got him a simple band but it’s the tungsten. For the day of he’ll switch to a band that matches my wedding band.

My FH has both a silicone one for work and a very nice $32 titanium one off amazon. They're both black but the titanium one has a guitar string in it.

There are no rules here, so just ask him what he wants! If he said he wants engagement ring then you shouldn’t get a wedding band, because that will come later. Ask him how he intends on wearing his ring, if he just wants something to wear until the wedding & then he will replace it with wedding band, then a cheaper ring is an option. If he intends to wear both wedding band & engagement ring, then you should get him something really nice that will last a long time.

I think you should ask what he has in mind.
If he wants one now and a new one later or what he's thinking. He might have something specific in mind?

My fiance was the same... We were in Walmart the other day and he decided to look at jewelry. We ended up picking a handsome black tungsten band for just $38. He'll wear this until the wedding when we switch to our matching set.
