Making your train detachable

Araceli, on January 3, 2021 at 5:13 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 10
So I fell in love with this dress but I don’t really want a train, but I would hate to just take it off. Has anyone hemmed your dress until it barely hit the ground and made the train detachable? It is expensive?
Is it easier to just take off the train, hem and buy a separate detachable train or cape?
I don’t really want a bustle since the fabric is so fragile. Making your train detachable 1Making your train detachable 2

My venue is at a mansion outdoors.

If you want detachable train, I suggest to buy it as detachable. It’s much easier. And it won’t look like 2 different things.

That is something to discuss with a seamstress before you purchase the dress. Not everyone likes trains but they are an industry standard so custom made locally is usually the best/only alternative.

This is an off the rack dress because I did not have time to order a dress.

As someone who sews it would be a lot easier to make the train pin up to be shorter rather than detachable.

I'd recommend talking to a seamstress about shortening or removing the dress's train (especially since it's made with such fragile material). From there, I wouldn't add a detachable train, but I'd look into getting a chapel or cathedral length veil or bridal cape. The veil or cape will give you the removal length you're looking for. (Either way, the dress is beautiful on you!)

Thats up to you based on what exactly you want from a bustle but I’m personally a fan of the ballroom style because it keeps the same silhouette for the most part.

Definitely talk with your seamstress about your vision for your dress.

I mean it depends what you really want.
If you don’t like a train, but hate to get rid of it, I think the best option is to have a bustle as PPs have mentioned.
You can have any bustle you want- would you want to be able to put it down at any point maybe during the ceremony? Or do you want it up the entire time? If you want it done at any point- the American or French bustle would work. If you want to keep it up- maybe ballroom bustle. I don’t think a detachable train would be worth it with what you’re thinking about. If you don’t want the train, but don’t want to remove it, but you also don’t want to bustle it because of the fabric- it’s something to keep thinking about. You might as well take the train off entirely. Maybe use the left over fabric for a shawl, cape, or even part of your veil? Just some ideas!
