Making your own veil?

Lorena, on May 11, 2011 at 2:53 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 16

Ok, so im exactly one month away from my wedding and i still don't have a veil. I haven't even started looking.... procrastination at its best.

So, i was wondering, have any of you made your own veil?

I want a cathedral length veil to go with my dress. I'm def not going to have my face covered. I thought of just going to buy some tulle and cutting it. But, some people are saying i'm going to regret not having a proper veil.

IDK what to do because honestly, i don't see the point of spending more money on something i'm going to use for like 2 hours of my life.

This is my dress

Well I did buy a cathedral veil but I am enhancing it myself because I didn't really like the plain veils I saw. My aunt is adding rhinestone applicates all the way down so that it can have some blitz from the back. I am also wearing two veils. One underneath my cathedral veil because I want big poof. I don't want some flat, weak veil. I like height and some width. If you have a Michaels or Hobby Lobby, go to their wedding section. They have veil kits. They sell the veil in a pack and the tiaras that can go with them. You'd be surprised. Your dress is quite extensive. I wouldn't go with a veil that is too much. A simple veil would do that dress quite nice.

I made my own cathedral veil. cost me about $10 from jo-anns.

i bought about 3.5yds of ivory tulle. after you trim it, use a running stitch at the top, and pull to gather to the length of the comb. then attach it to the comb.

My sister made my veil, and I did the design. I bought some trim at Walmart, and glued it on with fabric glue pen. It was really easy. I know you can google instructions on how to make a veil, but if you're crafty like my sis, you won't need too. GOod luck. Keep in mind that for the cathedral veil, you will need the tulle that isn't stiff.

My grandmother insisted on making my veil, because the one that my mom wants was $650. My mom is purchasing some swarovski rhinestones and she is going to trim the veil with them.

My mom is making mine using a pre-fab plain veil from Michaels. She is hand-beading it, using some beads we got from the seamstress at DB to match the beads on my dress.

I bought mine on eBay. It was only elbow length, but it was also only $15...

A simple one tier with pencil edging (this one is white)- $16

There are plenty with some sort of edging too.

I'd suggest you look there. You can be cheap, and not have the frustration of having to spend the time making your own- especially if you never have before.

My mother is making mine. It's really easy. And I want an organza veil, not tulle, so mine would be pretty expensive to buy. Sad because the material cost is like $10.

Its ridiculous how much birdal shops charge for veils, and then you look into buying all the materials yourself and its sooo much cheaper? At first before I decided to go with ebay, I was looking at material to make my own (i wanted tulle) and it was like

2$ or 3$ a yard (for tulle). I know my friend made hers when she got married for about $30 after she bought the material and comb, the best part was she was able to make hers whatever length she wanted (she made it the exact length of her dress) and didn't have to go with whatever length they come in already made, and hers turned out beautiful Smiley smile If you feel like tackling the project yourself, there are plenty of tutorials online that show you step by step how to do it if your interested.

I broke down and bought a veil. I went to Hancock Fabrics, two JoAnn's stores and was about to head to G-street Fabrics when I gave up. The reason was I discovered by searching on-line that the lace could cost over $50 a yard to get what I wanted. And, I expected to need at least 3 yards. So, I decided that I wouldn't save any money and would save myself the frustration if I just bought a veil, so that's waht I did.

Honestly, ladies, no one will give a crap about your veil, but you. Not once have I ever heard, "I went to Susies wedding and her veil was beautiful (or sucked)."

Do NOT spend a lot of money on a fricken veil!

Your dress is gorgeous! You don't want a cheap-looking veil with such a stunning dress, but of course you don't want to spend a fortune! Just as an example, here is a cathedral veil by Illusions Bridal, which is one of the most reputable manufacturers in the United States: http://forprincessbride.com/store/product812.html, and it's less than $75. I am sure your dress deserves it, so do you Smiley smile !!!

    Your dress deserves it? Really?

Make your veil. Tule is 0.50 a yard and you don't even need to know how to sew. I do sew, a lot, and I've looked at the one's at David's Bridal that they want $100+ for. It would take me $5 and about 5 minutes to make one.
