Making maiden name my middle name?

Amanda, on May 15, 2019 at 12:43 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 6
Hi all. Legally I do not have a middle name and was considering making my maiden name my middle name and taking my fiancé’s last name as mine. Anyone know how difficult that is? A lot of the stuff I’m reading online pertains to women who already had a middle name and had to change. Would love to hear from ladies who are in a similar situation as mine! Thanks a bunch Smiley smile

States may vary on this, but it most likely wouldn't be a big deal. When you submit your name change to the social security office, just make sure to fill out the paperwork properly. If you're going in person (I don't know how far away your closest SSA office is), then you can probably ask in person.

Yeah I think my state is pretty lax on name changes. I’m just trying to figure out if I should be changing my middle name before we do the marriage license. If I do, then I’ll be Amanda Losardo Losardo for a bit hahaha

I wouldn't. Why go through the hassle twice?

My state allows me to just choose my fiancé’s last name as my own when we do the license... not sure they’ll allow me to do the middle name as well. I will have to call!

I can't speak for every state, but I've been married before, and when I went to fill out my name change paperwork the first time (in Kentucky), I'm pretty sure there was an option to make my maiden name my middle name - like it was just a box to check or something.

My best friend did this without any issues at all (in California) it was just the same as a regular name change after the wedding
