Ugh, y'all... I'm really freaking out about my skin. I suffer from acne prone and EXTREMELY oily skin. And my extremely... I can't emphasize enough the oil slick on my face. I have tried everything under the sun (minus acutane) to fix my face. In order to control the oil even just a tiny bit, I have to use a daily toner, special face lotion for oily skin, and milk of magnesia ON MY FACE before putting on foundation. If I don't do these things, my makeup literally slides off mid day. My best friend is a makeup artist for Bobbi Brown and is doing my makeup for me the day of my wedding. She texted me saying we won't be able to use the milk of magnesia the day of (which I half expected). Now I'm scared that I'll be looking a hot mess even before the ceremony. Does anyone else suffer from chronic oily skin? What primers/products have you used to help control the oil? I'm so desperate!

It seems counter intuitive, but you may be using a cleanser or products that are too harsh for your face. If you are, it will send your oil glands into overdrive to fix the harshness or dryness that can occur. Then you have even more oil. I also have oily skin, so I use sensitive skin products rather than those for oily skin and it's been better.

I had extremely oily skin as a teenager. What cleared my skin up? Original Irish Spring soap. Seriously. I chose to attack it with stuff that should dry the skin out to get the oil under control. I used it first thing in the morning and just before bed or when I showered. As soon as I'd get home I'd wash the makeup off with witch hazel. Over the years I stopped using witch hazel. My skin changed and it did actually start to dry me out, but I still use Irish spring soap to clean my face. Then I moisturize.

I LOVE hourglass immaculate foundation. You can get samples of it and get matched at sephora. It's the only makeup I've ever used that doesn't break up on my nose. I absolutely recommend trying it out a few days and see if you like it. (it can be difficult to put on so I only use my damp beauty blender to do it). Also I think the Ben Nye setting spray works the best. It's made for stage makeup, so it's built for sweat, oil and heat.

And I second what others have said... Make sure you're hydrating your skin because it could be overcompensating. Theres a skin care reddit that may be able to give you pointers, too!

Okay this is going to sound really counter intuitive but... I have an oily t-zone and super dry skin otherwise. I started using avocado oil on my face and it has seriously helped so much! I just get a washcloth wet with hot water and place that on my face for about 10 seconds then use a little bit of oil and massage it around then wipe off with the wash cloth not lotion no medication - it seems to be going well! I also only wear make up for special occasions otherwise I just use it on the spots that I need it. You could always still do your eyes that way you still look professional and put together - just skip the foundation

Just want to touch on the no-makeup idea: I haven't worn makeup since August 1 to try to calm my acne-prone skin, and I've never had better results. I had no idea the texture of my skin was all wacky from wearing foundation every day for years, or that my oil problem was totally caused by the makeup I used. It was a big exercise in confidence, but people treated me 100% the same. So I really recommend ditching foundation for at least for a couple of weeks leading up to your wedding, as a couple of ladies have mentioned here. Good luck! Smiley smile

Hi Anna...I know how you feel!! I have extremely oily skin and that was my concern as well on my wedding day! My makeup artist used Makeup Forever (the mattifying primer and the mat velvet plus foundation & makeup setting spray). Omg that did wonders for my skin!! I could not believe how controlled my oil was. Now, I'm super oily so I did get shiny but not oily gross and my makeup lasted! I was so impressed. I do not moisturize before makeup (but do use a serum at night). The day of I washed my face with a mild cleanser and use witch hazel to tighten up my pores. I'm not sure if Bobbi Brown carries a foundation specifically for oily skin people but I was glad that I found the makeup forever primer and foundation. Good luck!
