Makeup Trial-opinions please

Jill, on August 18, 2019 at 6:57 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 11
Ok so I had my hair and makeup trial today. The hair I loved but I didn’t get a picture. I had her take it down because I didn’t want FH to see it and he was picking me up. The make up I didn’t love. First picture is my hair and makeup trial. 2nd is my normal makeup. 3rd was one of my makeup inspiration pics.

I have never worn false eyelashes before, so I wanted to know what they look like obviously since my MUA insists everyone wears them. Well, the eyelash glue was white and wouldn’t dry, so she took them off but assured me that she would have that worked out the day of the wedding.
The airbrush makeup started coming off in the car. Plus, I felt like it was too dark. I normally wear light with yellow tints and what I had looked like more of a medium color. It was also making my forehead lines stand out. So maybe a lighter color but that doesn’t fix the lines standing out.

My eye makeup was off too. The eye liner smudged but I felt like it didn’t look right without taking the eye liner into consideration. I was thinking maybe not wearing bottom eye liner or maybe no eye liner at all.
The lip color was wrong and I hated the blush. It was nothing like my inspiration pics. I really wanted to make sure my makeup lasted all day, so I would be sure it lasted the day of the wedding. So to say I’m disappointed is an understatement. I emailed her to ask for another trial but she hasn’t responded yet. Do you all think I am overreacting? Thanks for any and all advice/comments.

You are beautiful, but yes I agree with you, you do your own makeup better. I would think about a different makeup artist to do a trial with. If you like the way she did your hair, keep her for that but she didn’t give you anything like your inspiration pic. I plan on doing my own hair and makeup. My eyes are down turned and heavy lidded which is hard and I don’t trust anyone to do it right so I’m saving my money. I just keep practicing different YouTube video tutorials until I find the one I like best. Maybe give it a try yourself, worth a shot! Good luck!

Thank you! That’s what I was thinking but I wasn’t sure if I was overreacting.

I think your foundation was definitely way too dark. The trial makeup doesn't look bad besides the foundation, but it's definitely not special. I wouldn't want to pay for makeup that doesn't look like a pro did it.

The make-up doesn’t look much like your inspiration pics, I don’t think it looks bad but it doesn’t look like what you requested. It’s really smart to do another trial to get these kinks worked out before the wedding, but she may just be the wrong make up artist for you. By all means, do another trial, but maybe consider doing a trial with someone else.

Your makeup definitely looks better in your own picture. Agreed with PP that the makeup is too dark and nothing "special" for what you're hiring the person for. They needed to play up your eyes more and use brow powder/filler. Can you go with someone different for makeup?

The only issue is that this place came highly recommended and has great reviews. So I’m order to get a trial with them you have to sign a contract. The trial was included but since we are within 60 days I might be out of my money if I cancel. If that is the case I might just do it myself and call it a loss. Plus I would feel awkward having her do my hair and not my makeup now. I would rather be out of money than look like that.

Oooh no. Sorry to be frank but I’d be pissed. It looks nothing like your inspiration picture! No way. Do it yourself or find someone else.

Girl don’t pay for something you’re not happy with. Practice doing it yourself or hire someone else if at all possible. You are beautiful! I don’t think she did the best job on your makeup unfortunately Smiley sad

Thanks everyone for your honest feedback.

So just an update- she agreed to a second trial and said that she was going to contact me to ask me to come back in. She was late getting started and said she felt rushed to get me finished/didn’t have to time to make changes. We shall see how this goes. Hopefully much better.

If the second trial goes like the first..do your own or hire someone else. I don't know one MUA who can't even get false eyelashes on..thats a huge red flag to me. Not only does it not look anything like the inspiration photo..but the colors she used on you are all wrong. From your foundation to the lip color..its not right for your skin tone. She didn't highlight you anywhere that I can see..the eyeliner is nowhere near the same.

You're nicer than I am. I wouldn't give her another chance.
