Makeup! Mineral vs Airbrush

Julie, on February 16, 2016 at 2:17 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 12

Hi! I am about to book my bridal makeup. The spa at the venue offers mineral makeup application or airbrush. There is a price difference of about 35 dollars, but that is not a deal breaker for me. Which route do you think I should go, and why?

Thanks!!

Have you/are you planning on having a trial? I would highly recommend it! I had never done airbrush before my trial and ended up loving it! I was so sweaty the entire day (lol) and it lasted and didn't fade at all!

If you have never had air brush make up, I would do a trial and see how you like it. I love the airbrush look and feel but I have heard of people really disliking the air brush if they have lots of blemishes on their skin. I have read online that air brush make up photographs better than mineral, but that was something I read online so I don't know if it holds any truth to it.

I'm not a fan of mineral makeup for any kind of photography. WAY too unpredictable and prone to a lot of flashback.

For my brides, I use airbrush if they don't have a lot of discoloration/acne that needs covered, and a professional HD cream foundation (Graftobian HD Glamour) if they do need more coverage.

Airbrush is amazing... Did it for my trial and it stayed on for T least 10 hrs and looked flawless

What Niki said. I do not use mineral on any of my bride for that same reason. I've seen it go two ways. One...lots of flashback and you look like a china doll (white face/tan body) or the reverse where it absorbs the flash and you face looks really dark and doesn't match with your body.

Have a trial. Talk with your makeup artist about your skin, skincare and how your skin generally looks in photos and they can help you find the best option for you.

Airbrush is great if you are wanting a flawless finish but, don't have many blemishes that you need to cover.

Mineral is unpredictable because it usually contains zinc oxide and titanium dioxide. Long story short, these minerals are flat surface particles which means that they can act like a mirror and cause flashback.

Thanks so much for the feedback! I honestly had no clue. They have offered to book me a trial the day of my tasting, so I am going to take them up on that! (My venue is about 4 hours from where I live...closer to my hometown).

Tasting is on 2/27. I will give you the update.

Only a $35 difference is a great price! I had airbrush for my wedding and loved it. I would definitely recommend airbrush, at least for you as the bride!

Sorry to hijack the thread here, but for the ladies who did airbrush---did you do just foundation or the colors airbrushed too? I've noticed that some places who do airbrush mean just foundation, and some do it all.

I had the same option Julie and I chose airbrush foundation but NOT the eye makeup. Though I may change that package when I have my trial. I've read that most women who did airbrush were particularly happy because you don't have to worry about getting makeup on your dress when you put it on. I know myself and that is probably the first thing I would do, smear orange foundation down my front, lol.

I saw a tragic mineral makeup application on a bride that looked fine in person but her photos were terrible. It clung to every fine hair she had on her face and it made her look super orange.

You're in June like me. I don't know where you are but where I am there's a good chance it will be hot/humid. Airbrush is also really good for staying put in the heat.

So, what I am taking away from this is NO MINERAL MAKEUP! Lol. I booked my airbrush trial. It's $100 for airbrush and $65 for mineral. Sounds like I'm getting a great deal for the difference in quality!

And yes, I'm getting married. Outside. In June. In Missouri. At a winery And the reception is a Barn on property. Evidently I like to live on the edge! Thank God for hair and makeup!
