Makeup for sensitive skin

March2018Bride, on March 8, 2017 at 10:46 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 13

I plan on doing my own makeup because I have very sensitive skin. I only wear makeup now for special occasions and by the end of the night my eyes are usually itchy from the eye liner.

Are there are special brands that are made specifically for sensitive skin? I don't want to go makeup-less but I also don't want to be itchy my eyes and ruining the makeup either.

I normally only wear makeup on my eyes. Looking for products for eyes and lips. I don't like foundation and won't wear it most likely. Thanks for any tips!!!

A professional would probably have good recommendations

A makeup artist would have the answers and probably the products you could use.

Due to budget issues, I can't use a makeup artist or I'd love too!!!

It's going to cost you more money to get the makeup needed than you would spend on a MUA.

I have VERY sensitive skin as well. I wear MAC makeup. Several years ago they bought a company called prescriptives that made makeup for those sensitive skin! Since then they have changed their whole line to include the prescriptives formula. Granted I do not wear eye shadow daily so I can not speak to that but everything else from MAC has been great. It's not necessailry cheap like drug store stuff but it is worth it for me Smiley smile

Youtube would probably be my first go to, then google or maybe Pinterest. but it may be some trial and error with products and you may end up spending more than what you would for a MUA. a professional would have better insight than most of us, I only know what does and doesn't work for my own skin.

I can only wear mineral makeup, bare minerals is the brand I wear. I have tried almost every other traditional brand including MAC and my eyes will feel like they are on fire and turn bright red with them. Mineral makeup is far gentler, I recommend going to get your makeup done by a retailer that sells mineral makeup and wearing it around for the day after. See how your skin reacts and if there are no issues go back the next day and purchase the products that you need.

What brands have you used that caused issues?

I am sure to use gentle cleansers and micelles water and when it's make up time I prime with Make Up Forever's primer and either use the Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer (not great for pictures though due to the SPF) or the Urban Decay Naked Foundation which is awesome.

My advice is go to Sephora on a week day and have them help you color match and also find something sensitive!

I agree on the bare minerals. They have an acne or blemish defense powder that has light but amazing coverage. Paired with the mineral veil it's incredible! Make sure you use a really good face wash ( I use Cetaphil) and an equally great moisturizer (I also use Cetaphil). Don't be super concerned about the makeup you use day of wedding... just make sure you cleanse and moisturize after.

Clinique has always done well for me. I have sensitive, super dry (but still acne prone somehow?) skin. It doesn't make me itch or flake like a lot of makeup does.

1.) I suggest discussing this with an industry expert. Everyone's skin is sensitive in different ways and reacts differently to products. While people on here can post what works or what doesn't, it may be way different for you.

2.) like other PP's I suggest not doing your own makeup. It rarely works out the way you want in pictures/for the day of. I have been doing makeup professionally for 10+ years and still won't be doing my own for my wedding.

However, if it truly is not in the budget, I suggest visiting your local sephora (ultra or department store if no local sephora) and scheduling a makeup application. They will charge a fee (minimal) that applies to the products you purchase. They will also help you with tips and tricks for doing it yourself.

Right now I'm using IT foundation and Bare Minerals eye shadow and blush. Clinque eye liner and whatever mascara I can get away with...it just can't touch my lids. The 3 different HMA artists I've been to have been a disaster. One wised up real quick and gave me testers of products she normally uses and I reacted to almost all of it. I usually shop at ULTA so if I have a reaction I can take the product back and get a refund, but because I can use something for 6 months and then develop an allergy it's a constant struggle.
