Makeup Cost Sticker Shock- Wowza!

Shannon, on January 26, 2017 at 11:24 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 18

So I've started reaching out to makeup artists for estimates (Long Island area) and I'm hearing lowest $175-200 for bridal, and $100-125 for bridal party (per person) not including travel fees & tip...and I haven't even gotten into hair yet! Makeup is super important to me so I totally understand paying for a particular skill but I still can't help but jump a little lol Any other Long Island/NY brides feeling the same burn?

Where are you looking? I found someone for $65 bridesmaids and $150 bride but I found this person on instagram by searching NYC MUA. i find that if you go by the vendors you will get these crazy prices from Makeup companies

That's about standard where I am too. It's completely by region.

DIY would be cheaper. Get a urban decay Naked pallet and setting spray. If you don't have already. You would need 2 brushes one regular eye and one crease blending brush. Mascara I recommend Man eater it's only sold at Ulta. Then watch lots of you tube. You have enough time to get really good before your big day. Good luck.

Don't listen to Lynna. Hire a makeup artist. Those prices are pretty typical.

I would definitely not DIY, not wedding makeup. If you mess up, there would be no one to help you fix it. Leave it to the pros! They know how to make your makeup look good in person and photograph well.

I'm also giving my BM's the option, but it looks like they all would much rather have it done than chance it on their own

Look for independent MUA. I searched through instagram from hashtags on my friends pages, and kept going from there. I also searched through style seat, I narrowed down to a few I like and read a bunch of reviews.

I am from Long Island and getting married there, that's a totally normal price!

Definitely hire a MUA. SO much work goes into bridal makeup.

I suggest trying to get someone that does hair and makeup. You are likely to get a better deal. That is what I looked into.

Prices are definitely insane on the island, it's been nearly impossible to cut corners on 90% of things lol

I'm from LI and my prices were comparable ....Hair and makeup was just something I wasn't going to compromise on, personally.

Not to butt in, but I'm getting married in Manhattan and haven't booked hair/makeup yet (I think I've found the right makeup artist though but haven't committed yet). Anyone willing to share names for either hair stylist or makeup artist in the area? (Already tried Christina Amador but she's booked on my date already).

Depending on the size of your party, you may be able to go to a makeup counter to have it done. For a full glam face at MAC, you have to purchase 65 dollars of product I believe. They always do a great job

Ugh mine is like $500+ USD Smiley sad Hair and makeup trial plus travel cost for them. I don't know why it costs so much, but it's in Canada, popular tourist destination that's fairly remote, and they travel to you for trial and wedding day ..

Even more expensive here in North Jersey but this is something I am not willing to go cheap with.
