Makeup Artist or diy

Miya, on August 14, 2020 at 10:05 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 23
Hi Ladies! Has anyone else gone back and forth on whether you want someone to do your makeup or do it yourself? I found an artist I really like, but then I stop myself because I don’t know if I really want to pay someone to do my makeup for one day versus me doing it. I want to do myself, but I’m also lazy and the most makeup
I do myself is eyeliner and lipstick 😂

It’s not just any day. It’s your wedding day. You get to go the extra mile and do things your normally wouldn’t do. I’d go for the professional MUA. You don’t want to look back at your pictures and regret not having a more polished look.

I went back and forth. I can do my makeup very well and have a lot of it. I simply didn’t want to worry about smudging or the hot humid weather. I also want to be pampered! and since there are photos, I want the makeup to work well for the photos and there are tricks that I don’t know. I am also paying for my MOH to have professional makeup, again for photos and to make it through the sweaty day lol

I decided to do my own because I didn’t want to pay an after hours fee (and travel fee) to have it done around 5am for our sunrise ceremony. I also get to use the products I’m spending money on beyond that one day, so it seemed worth it. I’ve watched tons of youtube videos and have done several trials of different products and looks. In general, I do pretty simple makeup, but I wanted to be more glam for the wedding. I’ve actually had fun experimenting and playing around with makeup.
There are definitely advantages to a professional, do what you feel most comfortable with. To be fair, I’ve probably spent nearly as much in makeup as the base rate for the makeup artist I was going to hire so it’s not necessarily cheaper (the after hours fee and travel fee though would have put me well over $600 for just me!). I did splurge on some higher end products, but I’ll find an excuse to use them after the wedding.

I opted to go with a professional for a few reasons. Yes I can do my own and I do a pretty ok job but I want to look amazing. I don't want to have to worry if it doesn't come out exactly the way I want it. I want to be pampered and not have to do anything that day. I also want my makeup to be camera ready. It's a once in a lifetime day so I want to look better than I ever have. To me, it's worth the extra expense.

I love the idea of being pampered lol. I’m thinking about the weather too and it will be hot. They may know tricks too as you said to keep the look. Saves me the research I guess

That makes a lot of sense, especially with the extra fees. I love to experiment too! Your ceremony sounds like it will be gorgeous though as a sunrise ceremony 💕

Just by saying you're lazy, I'd probably stick with the artist that you really like. The last thing you'd want is to regret not having someone do it and your make up not being the way you want it. I don't do make up at all. I've had it done a few times before but always by a professional. I don't even own make up lol. I'd rather it be done correctly than attempt to do it myself whether I know how or not.

I am having those same thoughts, that’s one less thing to worry about and I can just sit back and take it all in. And it’s less to carry/keep up with.

Thanks! I’m hoping with plenty of practice and a solid plan I won’t be stressed on the day- definitely one advantage of a pro is you can just sit there and let them work lol!

I do my makeup everyday and I wear a pretty heavy amount of makeup. I booked a makeup artist for my wedding because it’s my special day, I want to be treated to all the extras once in my life. I don’t want the added stress of doing my makeup and worry about are my eyeliner wings even, or are my eyebrows matching???

I feel like if you practice enough where you got it on point for yourself then you could save the money aha but I do see the point of just letting a pro do it would put you more at ease

I am right there with you. I’ve been watching YouTube videos and trying to learn how to do my make up better so I could do my own. But, my bridesmaids are pressuring me into getting it done professionally because they said that it would take some of the stress off of me the day of. My problem is I have never had good luck with anyone else doing my make up. I am a very less is more kind of girl and I like to use make up more to accentuate than to cover up. Most of the time my look is very natural.

😂 you are right, I do not want to regret the look if I do it myself instead of letting a professional do it

I am the same way, I like to accentuate and look natural too. I think that may be the reason I like the artist I found. From pics, the clients look very natural but beautiful.

Especially since you already know you like the artist, I'm sure she'll take care of you!

I would say spend the money on a professional. As already stated, it is one day, but it's a pretty big day. And there will be pictures. You definitely want to look your very best. Hell, you deserved to be pampered on your wedding day. We ALL do. Right? However, full disclosure, I had the same discussion with myself when I started planning. I have a ton of makeup and can do my own from very simple to high glam, but it does take me a long time to get it right when I'm going all glam -- you know...highlight/contour, lashes, etc. If i'm under any kind of pressure or time constraints, that's when I have a tendency to get frustrated and then screw up...which then makes me even MORE frustrated and likely to mess again....lather, rinse, repeat. Knowing that about myself, I just said "eff it...i'm getting a professional". But if you still think you want to try it yourself, take the time now to play around and see what works. Do it over and over until you get it absolutely perfect and then do it again a few more times. Practice makes perfect, they say.

Good luck with whatever option you choose.

Thank you for that! I went ahead and decided on the professional. I thought about too that’ll I’ll probably get upset and frustrated at myself. And to be pampered...yes!
